That pic is epic!

I wonder if we're lucky enough to see the 1,100+ footer at 3rd and Congress rise along with Block 16's 1,072' version. I don't know if that's been approved yet though.

Block 16 is approved. But since it is all speculative office, it looks like a "next cycle" project.

There was never any site plan filed for 3rd & Congress. So that one is not happening any time soon.

I know the original Block 16 was approved but what about the higher version?

True, but rumor has it it's in the works. Don't think we've heard any time frame though.

The second version of Block 16 has been approved. But it lost a lot of height. The original was 725', and the current is only 590'.

It takes 1 1/2 to 2 years for a site plan to be approved for a large project like 3rd & Congress which is why it won't be starting soon.

Wasn't it revised (or proposed) to now be 1,072 feet?

1 - 2 years isn't that bad, if Austin can pull off two more supertalls (three total) this decade that would be really cool.

If I'm not mistaken, the only two actual supertall proposals in Austin were Waterline and Wilson. Waterline in U/C and Wilson neutered himself.

3rd & Congress was the only other potential spot for a supertall. But, nothing official has come of it yet.

The Railyard looked like it might also be a supertall. Again, nothing.

From where did this 1072' Block 16 come? Any links to stories?

That's disappointing, how on earth did that happen?

You can't win them all I guess, at least there's still 3&C.

I think Wilson and Block 16, even if ~600 feet are cool looking enough to still make an amazing impact.

I guess that is why one needs to hire more detail-oriented individuals.

I would be shocked if "Wilson" get built anywhere close to what is currently being proposed (if at all). Taylor Wilson, I believe, is a bit out-of-his-league in overseeing the development of a high-rise.

That's sad, a 600 footer isn't that much of a longshot...

If the office market recovers I still hope to see block 16 rise, even if just 590'

The Wilson tower was a vanity project for sure. Wilson even named it after himself.

Office projects are dead for a few years. Austin still has a lot of tall residential projects to look forward too though.

What would 3rd and Congress be? Residential / hotel mostly?

That project only exists as a blurb by the developer which was quoted in the Austin Business Journal. It was described as "90-stories" and "mixed use" which could be anything based on market conditions.

I mean, does a tower really need to have a legitimate use? That's overrated. What's wrong with having a 90-story tower just 'cuz?
