Body found after a fire early Wednesday morning is being treated as a homicide.

I heard on Ottawa media that that was number 9. I am pretty sure Ottawa is at least at 11.

Sad to hear about a son beating one woman up and murdering his mother in Downtown Calgary.

Double homicide (mother/daughter) in Montreal.

Also man charged with attempted homicide after stabbing a Montreal police officer on Wednesday. Luckily not a homicide.

Gatineau has now had 2 in less than two weeks. There had been none at all until July 18.

Had a homicide investigation close to home back in May. Turns out a fetus was found in the creek a few hundred metres SW of me in Oakville. Officers went door to door asking for doorbell camera footage but I don't have one of those. Anyway, they found the person associated with the incident several days later.

News crews came and went and actually two choppers in the sky. Not sure if they were both media or one was police.

Not sure if it counts as homicide when drugs are laced with fentanyl, usually without a user's knowledge, but 10 in a month is high enough that it should be. I never met Ben but his mother is an acquaintance.

The George Street Festival was ongoing at the time. They had the body wrapped up with hundreds walking by in every direction..

Enough is Enough: Mother Speaks Out Following Son’s Overdose

Quote:
A mother whose son died of a drug overdose in downtown St. John’s on Saturday says enough is enough.

The body of 20-year-old Benjamin Olivero was found next to a bench near the St. John’s Convention Centre around five o’clock in the afternoon.

His mother, Tina Olivero, has been told that he died after ingesting cocaine laced with the synthetic opioid fentanyl.

It’s the 10th known death linked to the deadly combination in the metro region in just the past month.

In an interview on Sunday, Olivero said as hard as her son’s death has been, it doesn’t compare to the pain he was in.

“Ben had been hurting for so long and suffering for so long that I just don’t want to see him in pain any more. He’s better now than he was (on Saturday),” says Olivero.

Olivero says the desperation and dangers of addiction are real and rampant throughout the community.

“It’s like breathing. I mean, if you can’t breathe, if you can’t get your last breath, you would do anything to get it. You would steal, you would chase after it all day long, you would do whatever you could to sustain that and that is addiction for people in addiction,” she said.

“We who are not in addiction have no idea of the magnitude. And I know that because if Ben had a choice, he would’ve chosen differently a long time ago. He’s been through hell—absolute hell.”

Olivero is seeking support to establish a parents’ coalition as one united front to lobby the powers-that-be for more resources to battle the scourge of addiction.

Kirkland Lake ON (population 8200) has had 4 homicides just in the last couple of weeks. There was also a homicide in June meaning the total so far this year is 5.

^I drove the very streets they occurred on and wonder if it's a serial killer who lives in the area. Although TBH, Kirkland Lake is so depressing I'm surprised more people don't get killed.

Saskatchewan courts sought manslaughter charges in this case. I don't know what the result was though.

Unprecedented manslaughter charges laid in drug overdose case

Normally placid Quebec City has had a flurry of violence in the past little while.

It's got people there a bit freaked out. Remember that this is a city that can go a year or 18 months without a murder. It might be the safest largish city in all of the Americas.

There were two homicides in a week - and they were in the same neighbourhood. Not really known for violence that much - is any part of Quebec City known for violent crime these days?

Anyway I think they are at 3 for the year now.

The AirBnB fire earlier this year that killed 7 people in Old Montreal is now being investigated as a homicide.
