Mississauga: Transfer City

All photos taken on March 17, 2006.

Taking the bus to Port Credit last month and seeing the state of Hurontario Street as the result of the endless construction made me think how it will change even more after the LRT, and then a few days I rediscover these photos of how it used to be. The street and the neighbourhood where spent most of my childhood and teenage years, even the building where I lived, is all in these photos.

Visiting SkyscraperPage and SkyscraperCity and seeing other people's photo threads inspired me to buy my first camera ever in 2004, the 5 megapixel Olympus C-5060 Wide Zoom, and less than a year later I traded it in taking advantage of the rising Canadian dollar and Henry's "Half Back" offer, I got the 7 megapixel version, the C-7070, for only $140. So I was a teenager with a primitive camera and I still didn't know how to use it properly, but I thought it still might be worth trying to salvage these photos. Some photos you may have already seen, but most I have never edited or uploaded before.

Other than the cars, you could've passed this off as present-day

Phenomenal photos. The most precious memories of my life would be with my grandma walking around square one right around the time these photos were taken. We easily could have walked right by you these days. I miss her so. Wonderful photos thank you so much. These would probably make my mom feel very moved. She grew in mississauga and got her first job as a teen at a newly built square one. She would take the bus from cooksville and tell me she would see farms with cows along hurontario between dundas and square one. Crazy thought now isnt it

The transportation resources seem to be maxxed out in Missisauga. I go back and don't have any reference points from each time I go there. traffic is insane. I tried to ride my bike.

I don't know, maybe it's the weather and season,
people don't look sunshiny and happy, they are tired, hasty and not happy.

don't like the vibes

It's not just the season, it's also having to use public transit in Mississauga during rush hour after a long day of work.

They have made significant improvements to the bike network in recent years, but I still wouldn't recommend visitors from Rochester explore the city by bicycle...

I think the city realized a bit too late that bikes are essential to keep the city moving. They are having trouble keeping up with the overcrowding on the buses, and the still ongoing LRT construction hasn't helped either.

Thank you. I am touched that my photos can remind you of your time with your grandmother. I am not sure if I saw farms along Hurontario but I do have some photos a farm just north of Square One. Those photos were taken a year before the photos in this thread. I am not sure if I have posted them on SSP before but I will check.
