High end grocery store - Whole Foods?

Quote:
“We have the provincial government coming in, and one very high-end retail store occupying 30,000 square feet – it’s a grocery store, but I can’t disclose the name due to some reasons,” Bansal added. “And then we have a wellness centre, 35,000 square feet, which is supported by the provincial government. A daycare will be occupying almost 10,000 square feet.”

"We have a sports facility, they say they need only one month for tenant improvement – that is a 20,000-square-foot indoor sports facility. They will have simulators for cricket, golf and all that, an academy type facility.”

would be a really weird location for Whole Foods. Maybe Seafood City? they are in most Canadian cities now, not sure if they are considered high end but that building is in the Filipino and east Asian area of surrey, Many Filipino, Korean and Vietnamese businesses are close by.

Surrey council to vote on Stage 2 of Semiahmoo Town Centre plan
Plan will allow residential tower heights up to 28-storeys

AARON HINKS Jan. 30, 2022

Quote:
The plan sets residential tower height limits of 28-storeys near the 152 Street and 16 Avenue intersection. If approved, the plan allows for a mix of 20- to 28-storey buildings on the Semiahmoo Shopping Centre and Save-On-Foods properties, which is considered the centre of the plan. Heights gradually decrease the further away they are from the centre.

Seems too big a size for an Urban Fare or Sungiven Foods.

Agreed. It may just be another T&T Location.

my thoughts is it may be an Osaka Supermarket (T&T sub brand) like they opened in West Vancouver @ Park Royal. That location seems more "high end" than an average T&T. notice the quotes around "high end" as its not high end in my personal opinion but in others I am sure.

OR .... maybe its a Thrifty Foods. They opened a 53,000 sqft location in Langford recently >> https://www.langford.ca/new-thrifty-...s-in-langford/

There is also a T&T at Surrey Central. Whatever opens the area could use something for groceries, there are a lot of buildings going up within an easy 10-minute walk.
There is Asian Grocer Henlong about a block east, but omg the Durian makes the whole store smell, I had to leave and wait outside once, it was so bad. But is very busy on the weekends.

It won't be T&T. There are 2 within 3.5km (Surrey Central & Guildford on 152/100). 3 in 3.5 km distance won't happen.

They need to extend the R1 Rapidbus down to White Rock.

That was the plan for Phase 3 of the 10-year vision but that's being moved to phase 1 of the new vision. The new vision is supposed to be approved this year, so it's coming soon!

My hope is that when the R1 is extended, the bus route won't involve turning East on 72nd for the purpose of collecting passengers at Newton Exchange. It'd be better to make a quick pit stop on the corner of 72nd and KGH before continuing South to White Rock. It'd make the journey seamless. I hate using Newton Exchange, it's pointless.

The plan has been to move Newton Exchange to roughly 71st and King George (it's been a field for a looong time now). Who knows when they'll get around to it.

The old medical building (where they are keeping the fascade) has seem some ground work done on it recently and there's a new banner around it indicating rentals?
