Didn't see this posted anywhere. Some interesting quotes from SB (and Related) re: the future of Chicago megadevelopments in this month's issue of Chicago Mag:
Quote:
Will COVID Kill the Megadevelopment?
Work began on Lincoln Yards and the 78 as the world changed. But developers are betting on a continued thirst for big living.

Dominick already exists from Webster to Southport, and south of the river to North virtually all of the extension consists of renaming Throop.
1850 feet is the length of new street between those.
In fact, if you take into account the vacation of Southport, the only extension of ROW is 912 feet.

The BookClub article is a bit deceptive because only one parcel will be discussed, according to the pdf that ChiPlanner provided.

This parcel looks great! The building is inoffensive and the extent of public riverwalk is unexpectedly great

Glad this meeting is happening, but disappointed this is about a particular parcel. Wish they spoke about the 606 extension.

Did they mention how they will be crossing the Metra tracks? There was a study a few years ago, but they never reached a decision:
https://chicago.curbed.com/2016/12/3...transportation

The tunnel was clearly the best option - most direct route, shallowest slopes - but the "north overpass" option 1 was also promising since it could be integrated with the Metra station platforms (example). I imagine it would also have some pretty spectacular skyline views, the view from the Kennedy at that spot is amazing.

When did they say they'll start on the life sciences building.

I'm hearing early 2021 and late 2021

Stupid question for everyone here. I see that Dominick street bridge will include bike lines, but according to the visual that was presented, it has a separate bridge for the 606 extension. Are there any photos of this?

Did you see a separate bridge at the meeting, or just in the Block Club article? There are so many different site plans and renderings floating around now, it's hard to keep track.

I thought the most recent site plan did NOT have a separate bridge for the 606. The existing Z6 swing railroad bridge will be locked in the open position and will eventually be reused for the east side trail. This is the current map on the LY website:

Block Club has two separate images that show two bridges. This one:

They had a direct question on the 606 extension and the SB rep mentioned underneath both the Kennedy and tunnel under the Metra tracks (rather than bridge over the Metra). He sounded fairly certain on route but very vague on timeline. Aka Bucktown and Lincoln Park connection via 606 is unlikely until mid-point (4-6 yrs) of the total buildout....at the earliest based on his dodginess of timing.

^ Yeah it's looking more and more like the 606 extension will be bundled with the new Metra station... which is *extremely* unfortunate. Metra has taken decades to build even the simplest station at Peterson/Ridge.

The 606 extension photo on the presentation did NOT have two bridges, just the Dominick one. The 606 did go under the highway & metra until it hit the river. Then you could each go north on the Dominick bridge or continual along the river to North Ave.

I saw the Block Club photo and got more excited as that's what I would want much more. I am not sure which is the real deal. It does look like this is a long way off though unfortunately.
