The proposed height of this building is going to change pretty much every day until it goes to the PC/CC. I won't feel comfortable on the height until its topped out.

This early on in a project, what sort of testing might they be doing on the soil?

The same time they would do later. JDL is pretty experienced and flush with cash after blowing up No. 9 so I guess they don't give a shit about spending money on stuff like this so early on. Usually you don't see it until later because the developers don't want to waste money on it until they know they will get their project approved.

Aside from basic reading comprehension, science, and math skills, they test it for the overall soil and rock makeup to understand what foundation systems need to be put in place, depth of caissons, etc. to be able to support the mass of the towers above. Different soil conditions will often have slightly different engineering solutions. And definitely different SAT scores.

JDL probably feels pretty confident about the approval process for this project as well. Them moving this fast probably indicates aldermanic support, which seems likely. Of course, being flush doesn't hurt either.

Either way, good news I assume. I wouldn't be opposed to an accelerated prep schedule

Ok historians. Isn't this parking lot the site of Schofield's Flower Shop. The site of the Dean O'Banion murder?

Yes, O'Banion owned his flower shop where this parking lot now exists. I believe O'Banion was gunned down in the street out front, not in the shop if I'm remembering correctly.

According to the site that picture comes from (NationalCrimeSyndicate.com), he was infact killed in the back room...

Quote:
On the morning of November 10, 1924, O’Banion was clipping chrysanthemums in Schofield’s back room. Unfortunately for O’Banion, Louis Alterie, his bodyguard is hung over and does not make it to the flower shop that morning. Yale entered the shop with Torrio and Capone’s gunmen John Scalise and Albert Anselmi. “Hello, boys” greeted O’Banion, “You from Mike Merlo’s?” The man in the middle, Yale nodded and returned O’Banions handshake in a clasped death grip. At the same time, Scalise and Anselmi fired two bullets into O’Banion’s chest, two in his cheeks, and two in his throat.

Heard from a reliable source that this is now being designed to be over 1,000 ft. JDL wants to go big. We will see...

PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE. Chicago has so much momentum and potential.

They must be doing some serious negotiating with the Alderman behind the scenes. Or maybe they are just reading this forum

My prediction stands:

They will reduce the size of the second building to throw a bone to the NIMBYs while making the taller tower even taller and thinner without adding units. They will also simply increase the asking costs of some of the tower units.

My hope is that they would reduce the parking count as well.

If they go for the rockstar prediction, both towers get considerably taller, and add more units. Parking stays the same. If they're serious about this being a catalyst for the Chicago street version of 59th street, let's stop dicking around and go big. Let's make Chicago into the global juggernaut it is truly meant to be.
