Oh man, the footprint for this looks soooo small in that photo!

It really is small. This will be a very slender, tall tower.

Shouldn’t they be bricking up some windows on 522 Fifth by now?

^ I've been wondering the same?

Also do we even know at what height the first setback will be? The diagrams seem to suggest a base of 7 floors but has that changed? There are different base heights on the schematics posted at different times. Here and here.

Anyone know for absolute sure? Are they lining it up with the setback of 522 Fifth? That would look a lot better if that's the case but one diagram says 125' max height and the other 192'. Not sure why the discrepancy as DOB setback guidelines are pretty cogently formulated, even if the aesthetic outcomes often suck.

Two floors on Fifth, one floor on 43rd (there should be a smaller setback forming there now). Some helpful graphics…

Got it. I've been misreading these because I haven't been accounting for that NAVD baseline. (+68' 9")

That said I do think it would have looked better to match the base height to 522.

i realize these plans predate of course, but i thought the navd88 data was to be replaced by gps in 2022? did that happen?

as i understand it basically its a move from no more surveying to now sea level will be constantly measured by satellites.

i suppose covid has delayed this.

Yeah, the new NGS datum has been delayed to at least 2024/25.
