I just wanted to add my thoughts to this project. I think you guys in Winnipeg should be very proud! That's a gorgeous design and the setting of the project is darn near perfect. Winnipeg is such a lovely city, I think this will add tremendously to the city, the culture, and the architecture. Great stuff guys!

It looks like another bizarre Frank Gehry creation.

Above the rights museum

HERE'S what the city looks like 200 feet — about 61 metres — above ground, with no walls around you and the narrowest of floors at your feet.

Photographer Joe Bryksa and videographer Tyler Walsh made the trip to the top of one of two Canadian Museum for Human Rights construction cranes for these views.

Dizzying as these heights are, the crane will go another 33 metres up — even with the top of the MTS tower near Portage and Main — when it comes time to put up the Tower of Hope, the glass superstructure that will be the museum's signature.

It's definitely interesting. Not everyone likes Antoine Predock's buildings. He did Austin's city hall, and even that building has people here who like it and hate it. I like it and it's turned me onto his stuff.

Some pics by me, from Jan. 5th. The olympic torch was at the forks, so I took some time to kill to take those pics in the freezing cold...

Was just reading some stuff on the webcam website, so thought to share it here:

January Week 4 video
Quote:
Video description: In the foreground, snow covers the ground. The construction site is bordered by leafless trees behind which we can see two mobile office trailers. At the centre of the site, there is a tall yellow crane with three smaller cranes off to the left. In the background there is lots of traffic and in the distance we see office buildings in downtown Winnipeg. As of Friday, three caissons had been poured this week. There are four remaining to pour, then caisson work is complete. As mentioned last week, a base for crane 3 was poured early in the week, although a crane will not be erected for many months. The base was poured so that the rest of the building could progress, as the base for the third crane is inside the building. Major progress highlights included pouring concrete in elevator cores A and C. Core A poured from level 3 to level 3 Mezzanine. Core C poured between level 2 and level 2 Mezzanine. The Hall of Hope Walls progressed as two sections of wall on the Root D side at the main floor were poured. Root A exterior walls progressed as four sections of wall saw concrete be placed. Also included in activity was pouring of pile caps and sections of grade beam in Root D.
January Week 3 video

At the centre of the site, there is a tall yellow crane with three smaller cranes off to the left. In the background there is lots of traffic and in the distance we see office buildings in downtown Winnipeg. Caisson progress was the big story this week. Five caissons were poured in the Roots B and C areas. Interior concrete slabs were poured inside Core A at level 2M. Foundation concrete was poured in the Root D area, which included pile caps, two grade beam sections and a sump pit. Two more sections of the Root A exterior wall were also cast. The big visual highlight for the week came when the base for a third tower crane was erected on Tuesday. This third crane will be the tallest on site and will be used to erect the structural steel. The base was lifted because it needs to be embedded in its foundation concrete, which is scheduled to pour next week.

Lastly, a image captured from the webcam on the website:
