Standing above the WC crowd from Downtown. Can even be seen from S. Lamar near Lamar Square!

It's pretty prominent from St. Edward's University in South Austin.

Are there any other projects in WC in development or proposed that will rise this tall?

Yeah, Union on 24th Street will be 320 feet with 29 floors, and 1911 San Antonio will be 332 feet with 29 floors. Nueces Tower will also be 291 feet with 26 floors.

Well, I'll be danged. I had no idea. The skyline is gonna stretch north of the Capitol a lot sooner than I realized if these get built.

In hindsight, the designated 300' height limit in West Campus seems rather arbitrary. What was the reasoning for going with that number? It seems as if there is enough demand to go taller than that.

The UT Tower is 307', so it was likely with that in mind, and not wanting to build taller than the Tower.

Ah, okay. I wouldn't doubt that was it. Seems silly to me though. UT Tower is a couple blocks inside of campus. I can't see how buildings in West Campus would really reduce it's prominence.

During my Freshman year at UT, I lived in a split dorm room 2 beds/bathroom/2beds, all in about 400 square' in a 5 story dorm. I can imagine how many of those you could cram into a 300' tower! I mean, after all, how many students can UT have, and lots of them come from Austin! So I don't really know why they would need buildings over 300 feet.
But I guess all the students are rich, these days. Parents didn't even start buying their student kids condos until long after I graduated.
But back in those days, I paid rent, tuition and books and had plenty of money left over for some serious partying from my barely over minimum wage evening shift job at ASH.
Life was so easy back in those days. Nobody even knew what a student loan was, because there was no such thing or need for it. I had lots of friends who had work/study programs though the University, and got lots of extra perks for food at the Student Union and music at the old Cactus Café.

This looks like a grown-up version of the HGI on 17th
