Walking down Queen St West recently, I had to remind a girl next to me there was a no walk/red light. She was staring at her 'gram watching a makeup tutorial wtf. A large truck was turning and I didn't want to hear the crunch.

The Changing Face of Downtown Moncton:

By my reckoning, by 2030 we should have two more towers in the 20 storey range downtown, two towers of 15 storeys, a 12 storey tower and two more 9 storey towers. These are the projects I am aware of. There are probably others.

Rimouski looking great as always! Good density with a nice mix of styles there.

Moncton - I can see it having more than that by 2030. I guess it’ll depend on the uptake of what’s being built and do people want to live in apartments or condos to that degree.

Oh, I can definitely see it having more than that too. I was being conservative. In particular there is a major downtown renewal project afoot for the lands behind Assumption Place and along Downing Street that will include a complete redesign of the street grid in the area. There is a single private developer involved in this project as well as the city and the province. Only the most basic conceptual drawings are currently available, but the infrastructure for this project will start next year. There are rumours of 6-8 new buildings here alone between 10-20 storeys in height. I didn't include most of this. This would boost my estimate substantially.

/\ nice! Can’t wait to see Moncton transform like that. It has a decent main street and better bones (argh.. I hate that term, yet I’m using it) than people give it credit for. Was really impressed by the city when I visited - sure I fell in love with Saint John, but Moncton felt like a humble ‘can do’ city without any pretension. Friendly genuine and helpful folks everywhere who know what they were doing - nice to see.

Won’t be in my life time, maybe no one’s but how cool would it be to have three cities in NB with a population of 200,000 plus each. Well, ideally 4 to 5 hundred thousand, that’s a nice sweet spot. That would really put NB on the tourist map more than it is already, and add in a short bridge trip to PEI!

Unfortunately, that seems pretty typical, and not just in North America.

St. Lawrence estuary. Most people would consider it a river at this point, but the water is principally salty.

For aditional information here...Brackwater starts at the east end of the Orléans Island near Québec City and gets pretty much as salty as the ocean at the mouth of the Saguenay river/fjord.

Great photos of Moncton and Rimouski. I've never been to either city. That's really impressive developments that will be happening in Moncton too. I look forward to seeing future photos of it. Exciting.

I was thinking the same exact thing. A very American-style planning trap

agreed. I was just there in May (had a great time in K-W!) and while clearly there's been a lot of rehabs and new highrises, it still has a ways to go.

Damned waterfront boulevard can never catch a break. At least some are focusing on other things.

In a glass-half-full-world, at last the peasants can drive by and look at the water without the view being blocked by condos.

it's nice to see Hamilton start to really clean up. For too long it's been just a dirty gritty place.. and now all of a sudden new projects popping up, restoration of older heritage properties.. I love to see it. (I still like a little grit... but just a little) It seems like a very exciting place to be right now. Great aerial shots!

Hamilton has improved a lot from when I lived there back in 2000. James St. North has so many new/newer businesses. Back then it seemed like it was the Portuguese community alone holding that street together.

Definitely exciting times with multiple condo/apt projects going on at once. The city will be more vibrant in the next few years.
