Here's an even longer comparison of over seven years from the other side of Rupert Station.

Even the trees have grown!

What a change though, it's no surprise given the sea of cranes in the neighbourhood but it still is quite dramatic.

Brentwood actually has an amazing skyline at night when viewed from the west. Really wish I had the time to get some shots of that.

Anyways, here are some evening shots while traveling along the number one a few days ago:

Seems Vancouver and Toronto are the only cities with impressive suburban skylines. Second tier would be Quebec City (Sainte-Foy) and Montreal. The rest of us are way behind. Ottawa's suburbs have a few roughly 12-18 storey modern commie-blocks for the most part, though we've seen some proposals/approvals that could change that in a modest way.

Ottawa has hundreds of suburban slabs and Ste Foy is less than a dozen high rises; 1 around 28 storeys; 1 around 17 storeys; rest 10 to 13 storeys and spread out

I guess my memory from driving down there last fall failed me. Other than Place Jules-Dallaire, there not much there in terms of skyline.

I guess I was impressed by how urban Laurier felt... for a stroad. Very nice, for a stroad. Mixed-use, I remember at least one grocery store at the base of a residential mi-rise. Parking lots are not as offensive as in Ottawa. The mall seemed to have a nice design that interacted well with the street, but checking StreetView now, that's all on the second floor, not the ground floor.

Yeah, so really "nice" stroad. Not much of a skyline. Hope the tramway comes with cycling facilities.

I guess Toronto is kind of a suburb of Mississauga?

Thanks! I was a bit unlucky with the cloud over Brentwood during the fly by and the sun direction, but I agree that the photo came out pretty epic. Burnaby must be well past 100 buildings over 20 storeys.

Great pic! I drove along Hwy. 1 from Canada Lake to Grandview and holy crap it's like continuous skyline to the north, it's a very cool stretch to appreciate the heft of the Lougheed skylines
