st albans, vt

st albans, vt -- sept 2022

st albans city

it's a small, cute main st/town square type -- near the border --

it has a sister village nearby -- st albans town on lake champlain --

also, a loop road drive around lake champlain islands is very nice -- north hero, grand isle and south hero --

St. Albans looks much bigger than its population of 7000 would suggest. Like many towns and cities in Vermont and New Hampshire, the architecture is similar to what you would find in some cities across the border in southern Quebec. The first picture made me think of Magog, for example (Google street view).

Great post, thanks for sharing!

Looks very nice! Gosh, I love New England... if I were to ever move again to somewhere I've never lived, I think New England might be at the top of the list (though perhaps it's a tie with the Pac NW). While I'd probably want to be in the Boston Area, it would be sweet to be relatively close for visits to these great towns and little cities throughout New England. So much charm!

I was just thinking the opposite. I was wondering if there was any architectural influence from Canada, being so close. A lot of the pictures look like regular America to me. I think I could take some pictures and convince people that they were taken in the Mohawk Valley or northeast Ohio or something. I personally don't see much Quebec influence at all, but I have spent limited time in both Vermont and Quebec.

Well, the Mohawk Valley is pretty close to VT. Upstate NY near VT is fairly similar. Not sure if NE Ohio really looks/feels like VT, though.

The town looks good. Sorta like a Burlington mini-me. Seems every town in VT is fairly pretty.

there is nothing inherently vermont about st albans or its waterfront sister village. it looks like similar ne ohio towns like chardon, painesville, medina.

more iconically vermontish would be in the mountains like stowe. certainly stowe, vt is nothing like stowe in ne ohio lol.

burlington too, which is on the waterfront and generally has a lot more older structures as you would expect in vermont, differs from ohio college towns. or there really isnt an equivalent anyway. maybe a combo of athens, ohio lookswise, but yellow springs hippy vibes wise.
