Yeah, they'd be foolish not to use them somehow... although I'm sure the columns won't line up, so I'm expecting an enormous concrete mat underground to transfer loads from the new building's columns to the Spire's caisson locations. Will be interesting to see how they coordinate that with underground parking.

The old plan

The small circle at the top would be the spiral ramp down to the lower levels.

Not as pretty as the original, but I'm still a fan. Excited for this one.

Not as good or tall as the original. But, I like it! It will be distinctive.

Chicago YIMBY is new to Chicago. I have been following them since then and noticed they have a number of stories that are out of date but slinging them like they're new.

City council approved this in Mid June - 2.5 months ago:

It'll take a while to catch up. One of the things is that we look at all of the permit data for the year, and than generate stats and trends based on DOB, in this case Chicago's DOB. Similar to Emporis in a way... market research and/or development research. Its kinda a catch up games because Chi YIMBY started not to long ago, in late 2020.

But the goal is to get it as fine tuned as NY YIMBY.

At the moment the Chicago section is understaffed, unlike the NY section that has many contributors/writers and is also based out of the UWS in Manhattan, so no shortage of New Yorkers or New Jerseyans in that respect.

With that said, there's a bit of a learning curve, and if folks want to assist, just PM me.

The goal really is to provide a comprehensive resource to bring Chicago projects and permit activity to the general public, and mirror the success of NY yimby, but for Chicago.

^ I completely understand that, and figured that instantly. I think there were a few articles that had led on that it was new things when in fact those things had been going on for a few months already. Anyway, we'll see. Obviously you have to build a brand and there's strategy with that. It's good to call attention to projects which people don't know about, especially those in other cities - just sometimes if they've been UC for 3 months, don't act like they just started construction yesterday

As someone who has been looking at permit data forever too and also has had a map going for the last 8 years for Chicago, look out for permits over time. There's a lot of SFH permitted a lot. Sometimes though they are done over days/weeks instead of at once. There's around 10 SFH permitted not far from the future Obama Library like that recently but maybe it was 1 issued yesterday, 1 issued a week before, 2 at a few weeks before that, etc.

I don't think so. They are simply too short:

I'm not confident in that anymore. It's no longer a 2000 ft building. If it does fill a gap it will be barely noticeable.

Thank you for your feedback marothisu! I'm actually one of the new writers at Chicago YIMBY. We are actively adjusting our content and style as we get feedback, and are always happy to get suggestions for how we can tweak and improve what we do We realize too that this is definitely a learning curve like Chris mentioned, and are looking through NY YIMBY too to further calibrate our writing.

Please feel free to PM me too if you have any questions or suggestions!

Cool. I'm glad there is a Chicago YIMBY now. It's funny because one day I was looking at YIMBY and thought "there should really be one for Chicago." A week later - voila. As another poster just said, we won't hold back usually. I think most of us are pretty vocal. I'm sure you'll pick up on some stuff here anyway..
