I haven't been in New York in quite a while. You can really see this building from nearly anywhere in Manhattan now.

One Vanderbilt construction update. (Photo taken on September 9, at 3:08 pm EDT). The superstructure of the spire is taking shape.
Meanwhile, "Billionaires' Row," ever in the background, keeps a wary eye on the proceedings.

Will the spire be lifted up as one piece or is it to be assembled from multiple components? Here's hoping the crowing touch has the elegance and grace of the Chrysler spire...

omg i hope in pieces! the thought of hauling a gigantic spear all the way up there will give me nightmares.

of course, if we get word that is what they are in fact doing, hauling it all up at once, i will be there!

it's about 100' so they very well could install it all at once.

Probably assembled. I just can't wait for the crown lighting.

Im glad that 432 Park is sort of getting lost in the mix of things finally, that building is horrific.

^ It definitely looks less jarring now. I hated it at first but it is sort of growing on me. It makes me wonder what I would've thought of the original WTC towers at first had I been alive right after they were built.

1 Vanderbilt is definitely one of the top 3 of the new towers. Along with MoMA & 111w57th.

I strongly agree. 432 Park has killed the harmonious scale of Midtown's greatness. It has taken much more than it has given back.

If Stern or Som had been the architect of those air rights, things would have been much more pleasant.

Almost as horrific as all the garish antennas/reflectors absolutely ruining the top 250' of the ESB. (I'm not talking about the original antenna on top) An absolute disgrace to NYC's most iconic building. Move them to the top of 1WTC for God's sake.
