it will be such a thrill, i can't recall another building that terminates in screen wall of such height and lacy gossamer beauty--piano's NYT tower was such a dud in that respect

The next floors to rise will be:
170.5 foot steel crown
1,257.5 (roof)
45.6 foot void for the tuned mass damper (the last concrete setback will be at 1,226.5)
1,211 (currently)

The floor it's currently on is taking a while because the mass damper is going up, I expect concrete to top out in late March maybe

That's a pretty big crown, which is much better than skinny spires IMO. How much money do you guys think this steel crown costs? I am curious because on this forum we often say that many buildings in NYC would look nicer (and of course become taller) if they had ornamental crowns or spires, but many developers would rather do away with them to save money.

I don't recall if it was discussed earlier in the thread. But I think its more an issue of Stern allowing SHoP to present a more compelling tower, as we've seen with 9 Dekalb as well. Gary Barnett took the opposite approach with CPT. He said from the beginning that there would be no spire, which he called a "gimmick", (somebody tell him his tower needs it). Then there was a spire, and then there wasn't one.

so after this final and rather complicated i think mechanical/common area level or whatever it is, there is just the crown to go? that shouldnt take too long. i wonder if it will go up in sections or all in one piece? anyone know? it will be really something to watch out for.
