EL PASO | WestStar Tower at Hunt Plaza | 313 FEET | 18 FLOORS

OxBlue Construction Cam Link:
https://app.oxblue.com/open/Moss/WestStarTower

Developer:
Architect: Duda/Paine
Type: Office
Location: 601 N. Mesa St, Downtown
Construction Timeline: Breaking ground soon - Fall 2020 Completion

It’s now 18 stories: Downtown tower plan gets big upgrade

Quote:
It will be the first office tower built in Downtown El Paso in more than 40 years. And now, it will also be one of the tallest.

The long-anticipated plan has gotten a big upgrade. City documents show the building will be 18 stories – not nine stories or 14 stories as originally imagined. And the investment has grown from $70 million to $85 million.

“It’s thrilling to be honest with you,” said Downtown real estate broker David Etzold.

WestStar Bank would occupy three floors of the tower, have a commercial bank operation on the ground floor and employ 180 people at the new location.

Hunt Companies would also move in, according to Hunt. It would occupy three floors of the tower, bringing 175 employees to Downtown.

The tower is scheduled to open around Fall 2020, Hunt Companies executive chairman Woody Hunt told El Paso Inc. in February.

El Paso’s tallest building, the 21-story Wells Fargo Building, was built in 1971 and is 302 feet tall. The former Chase Building was built in 1963.

Groundbreaking on Wednesday, and this says it's going to be 306 feet tall - making it the tallest in downtown El Paso. This is El Paso's first building over 300 feet.

El Paso's $85 million WestStar Tower office building should be finished by summer 2020

Vic Kolenc, El Paso Times Published 8:00 a.m. MT June 21, 2018 | Updated 11:53 a.m. MT June 21, 2018

The construction of the $85 million, 18-story WestStar Tower office building will begin in about two weeks.

That's the projected start time after many of the city's business and government leaders celebrated the project's symbolic groundbreaking on a hot Wednesday morning under a white tent on a blacktop parking lot at 601 N. Mesa St. and Missouri Avenue, where the building will be constructed.

Groundbreaking occurred in June but they're just starting to rip up the parking lot.

El Paso: 313-Foot-Tall Tower to be City’s Tallest

Posted: 1-25-2019

El Paso (El Paso County) — After six months of site preparation, the WestStar Tower entered its vertical activity phase this week, and when completed it will be El Paso’s tallest downtown building.

Since the official groundbreaking in June of 2018, crews have been working diligently to clear the lot at Hunt Plaza, which encompasses the entire city block bordered by Mesa Street, Missouri Avenue, Oregon Street and Wyoming Avenue.

In December, the large construction crane was delivered onsite. Once completed, the multi-tenant office building will be 313 feet and 6 inches high, making it El Paso’s tallest building. Construction is scheduled for completion the summer of 2020.

The red tower is the WestStar Tower that is under construction now. The blue one is the 400 Main Street tower. It's a 287 foot, 26-story story residential/hotel building.

I didn't have these renderings saved, so I thought I'd post the link. There's also a link to the construction cam, which shows what it looks like at night.
