No clue. This hasn't even gone to the plan commissioners yet.

Plan for city's second-tallest tower 'very close,' alderman says
The developer of a proposed supertall skyscraper next to Tribune Tower could reach a deal with the city in "a couple months," said downtown Ald. Brendan Reilly.

I just read the article on Crain and I’m really excited about this. Would you guys agree that the tribune tower may make it out of this quarter ?

Of Plan Commission? My guess is no. Reilly isn't known to fast track approvals.

Just asking, but does any city allow one man such as Brendan Reilly to have that much power and authority over their Downtowns development. Tribune annex, old spire site, LSE all have had to jump through his hoops, and I believe several other developments that have been jettisoned. I was hoping that we were beyond his excessive scrutiny.

Read the headline initially as 'Plan For Second City's Tallest Tower Very Close"

But I'll take "Plan For Second City's Second Tallest Tower Very Close" as well!

I'm not sure about the other developments but it seems the spire site just needed some tweaks, he didn't outright reject the whole thing. I don't think he had a problem with the height either, and hopefully won't with Tribune East.

As far as the article chicubs111 posted, it seems Reilly himself is optimistic, so that's good.

I agree though about one person having so much power, should really be an entire committee

Anyone heard if there will be an observation deck on the top? Might be another way to add a floor or two...

Y’all seen this ? I don’t buy their stories but you never know about these whispers.
Going back to this I can see he got this number from CIM's website which does now list Tribune Tower East as having 949 units.

That's exciting, they could have rearranged units and added more without increasing the height but there's a good possibility it is taller.

I hope, I think it would be a cool if it were enclosed like Shenzhen's KK100 with some sky gardens or whatever.

Perfect location for a view at that height too since it's so central

Nice find. I'm going to assume they are cutting larger condos for more micro luxury rentals.

Are the sides of this tower pleated in gold? It kind of looks that way in the rendering.

Probably, but doing this still leads to more probability of a design tweak, despite the fact that the recent article still says 1,422 (they can be wrong though).

It can't be that much more expensive to add on another 30+ feet. Then they can say they have the tallest building in Chicago (minus the Sears antennas), a more exciting place to live than the second tallest building in Chicago no doubt

Or just go for the title tallest building in North America. New York can’t have all the titles.

That would require another 150ft to top CPT and that would last for all, but a few months before another NYC supertall surpasses it. They are in a league of their own at this point.

I do agree that we should finally surpass Sears.
