This is right from their website. Looks like a RIU hotel? Or maybe it's a placeholder? And god that base is terrible.

I am curious how old this rendering is since it still features the Crate and Barrel on Michigan Avenue instead of the new Starbucks Roastery.

Judging by the quality of architecture, I'd say 1750.

1750 had MUCH MUCH better architecture than this...

Riu is definitely looking to build this and operate in Chicago. Not a placeholder. I don't find the base horrendous in that picture but it's not very great. Riu isn't exactly known for their great architecture on hotels anyway. The times Square hotel is more glass box but still MEH looking overall.

I still can't get over this terrible top few floors for this. Who thinks this actually looks good? I really want to know. It is terrible looking for real.

Oh..Lagrange is the architect on this one...

I'm much more curious how/who decided on white tuscan columns of two different sizes in the base. And if you're just going full Pomo schlock why not throw some on the top of the building too?

I like it, and it's way better than the two ugly boxes Riu built in NY.

I see no issue with it if both sides of the base match.

Couldn't decide on one design or the other... so did both?

This is absolutely atrocious and DPD should be chastised for allowing this design to see the light of day.

It's poorly based off of 1500 n LSD, including the little Villa on top. It'll be a nice filler, and I bet the base will seem just like a prewar when you walk by.

Were you expecting a zaha Hadid supertall on a boxed in lot on a one way street off Michigan??

It's masonry it'll be fine. All his building are pretty good at street level tbh. Waldorf, 2550, Park Hyatt, just don't look up.

^ I don't think anyone was thinking supertall for this site...but most would expect something in the 500ft to 600ft range and would be considered appropriate for the site and location.

Lol wut. It's a pretty tight site and would be tricky to fit all the cars that would use a 500-600 foot hotel or residential tower. Those types of buildings usually need the better part of a block, or at least a corner. I think this is perfect for a middle-sized hotel. The architecture sucks, not the scale.

^ maybe you should do some research of the last two proposals for that site before assuming its beyond possible for anything taller than what is currently proposed...
