I can't wait for this to get going. It's gonna drive those Society Hill-ers nuts.

I was laughing as I saw the picture above. There are so many NIMBYs sh*tting their pants seeing this go up.

Now if only the Dilworth House project, and planned hotel on Walnut would get going.

It'll be great to have another tower in that part of the city, the SH Towers, 101 Walnut etc always seem so lonely and kinda out of place so far southeast of the bulk of the skyline.

I'm obviously in the minority here but given that this more or less burying the Society Hill Towers from view from the river, I was hoping for a more inspiring design. Its like covering a Monet with a Bob Ross.

Depending on where you are viewing, the Hyatt sort of did that already.

Excuse me. Bob Ross is a genius.

Society Hill Towers look good, but I certainly wouldn’t compare them to a Monet either.

They are underappreciated because they were striking at the time, now look run of the mill. Similar to PSFS for that matter. If I knew art better, I'd make a better analogy.

Regardless, skyline considerations with rare exceptions are silly. Cities are for the people living and working in them, not for someone in Camden taking a picture. I like the society hill towers and this building clearly ain't much, but there's still plenty of views of the towers.

I know a guy who had this amazing southern view of philly that he paid an arm and a leg for. It was amazing. It was in the Ritz Carlton. They put up a new motel there unfortunately called the "W."

He ain't got no view anymore. Life in the big city.

Lol. Yea, not to say I don't get why people are upset when a view disappears, especially if the view is from their own home. But I just don't think it's a reasonable reason to oppose development. That being said, you'd think this guy might have anticipated that the parking lot steps away from City Hall may not remain undeveloped forever.

To me it's all about expectations. If you buy a condo with windows ten feet from a vacant CMX-5 property line I can't really feel bad for you when it gets built on. Presumably you paid a bit more for it because of the current views but less than you would have if the views were likely to remain indefinitely.

That whole space could've have been one huge skyscraper of at least 800+ feet. It could've been a combination of 2 hotels and (the Ritz?) condos on top. With land around it's perimeter. The W negates the existence of the Ritz. You can't see it on the skyline anymore. It looks like one building.
If anything, the W should have been where the Ritz is and vice versa.
