Great updates Paniolo Man! I love how Brinshore is fitting into that site.

Also, could you please go over to the Provo forum and shed some light on the different aspects of dredging or not dredging Utah Lake. I think it's probably one of the most important development issues the Wasatch Front must decide over the next couple of years. I think a lot of us would like to see some friendly discussion on the matter.

I would love to see this theater saved and restored. This is so annoying because there is a lot of open space on the very same block that could be developed….

Unfortunately I don’t think the people trying to save the theater are going to be successful. I noticed that Rays barber shop had been closed and the windows covered up last time I drove by…. Sad to see that go as well.

Here’s some general info to think about. The purpose behind the dredging is to mitigate toxic algae blooms. Algae blooms like a few things things - warmer water, fertilizer (nitrogen and phosphorus), and stagnant water. By dredging and deepening the lake the idea is the lake will cool (deeper water does not cool/heat as fast), mix more and algae blooms will decrease. One thing to consider, does depending the lake mean there will be enough water to fill the lake given worsening drought conditions? Im assuming maybe the dredging will be designed to deepen the lake and take up space with the islands to keep the same water volume, so water volume may remain unchanged. Another problem - with the addition of more residents adjacent to the lake there will be added fertilizers (lawn) stressors that inhibit algae blooms. This has been the problem at Utah lake, with more and more development next to the lake and the agriculture south of the lake fertilizer input has increased and worsened algae blooms over the years. If they can address the root of the problem fertilizer input and limit it then that would help. There’s probably a myriad of other environmental issues and things I’m not thinking about but those are my initial thoughts.

On a side note, anyone who’s interested in development and our relationship with nature may be interested in the book “The Control of Nature” by John Mcphee.

Found these shots of Liberty Sky & 95 State on Facebook. Looks like we can mark these two as complete.

95 State is officially my favorite completed tower in SLC.

Thanks. I hate it.

Feels like something out of North Korea.

Liberty sky is one ugly chud… I guess I shouldn’t have expected much from cowboy properties. :/

It looks a lot like the towers around Ala Moana or Waikiki.

95 State is good, Liberty Sky is very very bad.

I still don't like how the stone church facade fits into the bottom of 95 State, but it is what it is.

SLC Innovation District II?

https://citizenportal.slcgov.com/Citizen...08&agencyCode=SLCREF&IsToShowInspection=

Some subdivision documents were filed for what appears to be calling itself 'SLC INNOVATION DISTRICT II' (name of owner) and the 'Geneva Subdivision.'

It may be nothing, or it may be something. It definitely piqued my interest. Maybe one of you can make something of it.

Hopefully we will be seeing movement on these Granary District properties soon.

Liberty Sky posted a photo on Facebook of the view from the rooftop hot tub that I thought was pretty cool.

Interesting. There isn't much there right now so I hope it's something. The combination of "Innovation District" and "Geneva Subdivision" makes me hopeful that it's mixed-use. That's also where the 9 Line trail abruptly ends, so hopefully whatever is built there facilitates extending it eastward.

Now if we could just do something about the Fleet Block.

The best part about the view from Liberty Sky is that you don’t have to see Liberty Sky.

Just a quick note on the 9 line trail here. Completion of the 9-Line Trail between 900 West and 900 East is funded and planned for completion before the end of 2023. You can see the planned improvements for every block of the trail at the link below. We should see some pretty significant construction along the length of the trail starting this year. However, if the slow progress of construction of the Central 9th portion is any evidence this past year, construction delays may push it into 2024.

Thanks. What is interesting is that the blocks we are currently talking about (between 500W and 300W) are not included in Phases 1 or 2 on that page.

I'm not a person of faith and certainly no advocate of LDS corp., but if local vernacular is an aesthetic criteria for interesting architectural design, I'd say the integration of LDS styling at the bottom corner of this tower is bitchin'. I don't like LDS design as it's been either the burlap wall approach to eliminating material culture or temple finishes that are mostly without content but expensive looking. However, that kind of design is starting to accumulate some tradition behind it which makes it recognizable. So I know this sounds like -and maybe it is- a backhanded compliment, but that tower only happens in downtown SLC. And that's pretty cool. Maybe developers should start employing some LDS pastiche?

It actually does. Also kind of reminds me of a lot of residential buildings in Vancouver, though Vancouver buildings rarely tend to look so squat, even when they’re shorter.
