Building a park over I-277 lingers on Charlotte’s ‘wouldn’t it be nice’ list

“Capping” I-277, a two-decades-old idea to construct public space atop the freeway, was largely left out of Charlotte’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan draft, but the concept remains on the city’s bucket list.

You all can thank Milwaukee and Mayor Norquist for starting this trend. Watching the demolition of the Park East in high school was formative for me.

Death to central city freeways, cap or remove baby!

If you visit Milwaukee, tour the former Park East ROW, it's almost fully healed from urban renewal.
