Agreed. Leafs have a proper goalie. Outshooting the other side can only get you so far.

Dubas knowing his job is probably safe, looked like they won the cup last night.

Samsonov outplayed Vasilevskiy, but he wasn't particularly great himself. He had a great game 6 but his save % for the series was a meager .900. That places him 11th out of the 16 starters (13th out of 21 goalies who have played this post season).

To be fair, the wild first two games inflated both goalies numbers. Save percentages from gm3 onward were probably a little less meagre, though I don't think the goalkeeping battle was the story of the series. Moreso the Leafs finally getting the clutch goals in the third and OT in gm 3,4,(5), and 6.

They were saying this is the biggest point differential upset since the Kings beat the Oilers in 1982. Not sure if that's just 1st round or what exactly.

I don’t know. People forget the Panthers won the Presidents trophy last year with 122 points.

How can it be the biggest upset, knowing that.

Besides, regular season record holders have a hard time winning a cup, and that’s in all major sports leagues combined.

There were a bunch of Garbage teams thus year, Tampa was not one if them.
A team that played for below 0.500 since Feb 1st is definitely a bad playoff team. This team was nothing like previous years teams. If it was, Tampa would have won in 5 probably. Blowing a 4-1 lead with less than 10 min to go and allowing 2 last minute tying goal is the definition of choking. No wear near championship level.

The only other playoff team close to their record was Winnipeg but even they played for 0.500. Tampa was BELOW.

Exactly! One of the hottest team to finish the season as well (complete opposite of Tampa who started strong but faltered).

They replace playoff choker Huberdeau with playoff performer Tkachuk. Montour is a top 5 D-man this season. Playing out of his mind. Barkov probably the best 2 way C. Reinhart, Bennet, Verhaeghe a 40 goals scorer.

Their depth is not as good as the Leafs' but the top end talent is a tad better. Although Bobrovsky was solid in the last 3 games, goaltending is a question mark but so is Samsonov.

With Boston's defeat, it should be clear sailing to the Stanley Cup finals for Toronto. No excuses!!

The Leafs took one of "those previous teams" to game 7 last year. They were actually in the exact same position as this year, a chance to put them away in overtime of game 6. One bounce the Leafs way and they would've eliminated the Lightning.

It's hard to call a team that went to 3 straight Finals as a bad playoff team. It was essentially the same core minus a couple fringe core pieces.

Last two Stanley Cup champions are out. 2006 is the last time any of the remaining teams won.

The Kraken taking out the former Stanley cup champs in their second season and first playoffs is history in the making, seems its being missed with the Boston upset.

Two absolutely monster upsets in one day. That was something else.

This is the best chance the leafs will ever have at a cup since 1993. Boston will be back with a vengeance next year. Same goes for Edmonton this is their best chance since 2006 with such a weak western conference and the Avs out .

A golden opportunity for an all-Canadian Stanley Cup final. An opportunity like this might not present itself for another generation.
