Canaan goes small with $43M in East Austin

Canaan Modern Homes is planning a $43 million multifamily development in East Austin, and most of the units will comprise less than 500 square feet, the Austin Business Journal reported.

The project, called Atlas 7, will have 192 apartments above 13,000 square feet of ground-floor retail at 3511, 3525 and 3535 East Seventh Street and 621 Gunter Street.

The cost works out to almost $224,000 per unit.

Under 500 sq/ft for familes?

Who are they kidding?
Shoeboxes for singles is fine & easily doable. And it’s just a maybe for some younger couples.
But please don’t try to say a real family with a kid or two will be comfortable crammed in together for years & years.
Yeah, there are exceptions that could stand it, but given how people are stressed & entitled in recent years, that 3rd world concept is dubious at best IMO.

Maybe, I missed it. But I didn't see anything about these being marketed to families. These would seem to be for singles and maybe couples.

^^ I think it was the multifamily label, perhaps. That said, I agree - that small is tough for families. This is definitely for singles and couples.

My granddaughter and her fiancé (with one dog & two cats) are living in her 680 sq/ft condo on 183 up near Balcones Village.
They seem to be doing ok, but it is pretty tight for them both.
