I believe Acajack and I had a short discussion on this a few months ago. Don't remember which thread.

Good news about the façade. I did not see that coming. I guess our city council isn't as guidoune as I thought it was when it comes to developers.

I was in the VH (VAY-ahsh as my kids say) recently, and they have a construction fence up on the site and have begun some demolition work.

Before anyone gets to excited, it's for the mid-rise, not one of the 33 floor towers.

Le Droit just published an article which stipulates how Le Groupe Heafey started the demolition of these buildings without any permits.

The main points of the article is that while the city issued a demolition permit in August, which was conditional on the builder obtaining a construction permit, none had been issued yet. And so, once the work started, the city issued a stop work order on March 12th, which was ignored and then, meragaliously, a permit was obtained on March 17th.

A second article in Le Droit also serves to illustrate the dysfunction within le Bureau de l'urbanisme. While the Municipal regulations call for a permit to be issued within 20 days, the delay now ranges between 180 to 200 days which explains why Le Groupe Heafey took matters in their own hands.

It's surprising how much power one man (Clennett) has over developers... or am I missing something?

The demolition of those buildings and construction of the new building are happening right outside my balcony (I'm in Le W/E Phase I). I've been documenting it since the first time I spotted fire fighters hacking at the old apartment building there.
They started blasting today.
Here's an album that I'm keeping updated, including the mockups I found in this thread (thanks!) and some historical context for the site. The destruction of the apartment building was particularly dramatic.

Wow, they didn't even save the bricks. This won't be facadism but a replication.

They may have carted off the bricks separately from the other rubble, can't say for certain. Definitely weren't being delicate about it.

Excavation is well underway. Anyone knows if they will build both towers at the same time ?

The excavation is huge. Is it really just for the short tower in the renderings? Are the 33 story towers happening?

I didn't realize that this project include a smaller building as well. I'm hoping that they're building at least one of the towers. Multi-phase projects sometimes have the full excavation done for the first phase in prevision of future buildings, so I hope that it's not the case there.

Went by today - excavation pit is massive… at least 5 stories deep and likely setup for multiple building given the size … I would guess this is for larger towers. Would expect crane(s) to be up before winter.

Some of the parking space is probably for the grocery store.

I would guess that this excavation is for the shorter building and one of the towers.

Rue Saint-Redempteur is 2 "houses" to the left of this photo and was seemingly non existent when I took this photo, although I wasn't really looking for it. It seems to part of the staging yard for the moment.
