As a neutral (Leafs fan) observer, I don't think there has been any particular dis/advantage in officiating through this series. Really the entire playoffs have been decently well-called for the most part, IMO.

Cracking series so far though, it's been edge of the seat hockey. Bettman must be loving the idea of a Canadian team being eliminated, but also dreading the spectre of a non-US side in the final

So last game, let's say Skinner only lets 2 goals in on 15 shots.... that's still just a 0.867 % and yet we would have potentially won IF the guys in front of him actually put the puck in the net; we are making their goaltender look like a fucking god out there because of lacklustre chances. Goaltending percentages are far from a complete story and as a former goalie, facing a shot every 4 minutes (on average) is really, really hard to get into a rhythm for. He must get his GAA down and % up, but he is in a tough spot as per below.

So far in this series, we have had double the number of giveaways, half the number of blocked shots and are losers in the face-off dot. For me, that is far more telling than his save percentage and while he MUST be better and needs to make that one extra key save a game, the guys in front of him simply are not good enough.

For a team 4th in the league for GF this year, we are simply not putting the puck in the net given the fact that we know our D and tending are unlikely to win us games and that's not the end of the world. Our offence is what we are known for, pay for and ultimately need to put a spotlight on. We knew that we need to win many of these games 5-3, 6-4, 7-5 etc. and yet have had almost no secondary scoring at all.

Look at this part of our team, a team in front of our tender and their +/- (especially 2-3 guys), their pts and their shooting %. Absolutely brutal and far more responsible for where we are right now.

Games. G A PTS +/- (in Grey) PIM shots

I suspect that we will indeed see Pickard tonight as there is SIGNIFICANT pressure on the coaching staff to try something new here.

I like Pickard A LOT, but do worry about his lack of experience and talk about a pressure cooker for him to prepare for.

Either way, GO OILERS GO!

Why? They are run and gun champs, but Dallas is perhaps the deepest, most complete team out there. Insane depth.

They lost Valeri Nichushkin to players assistance. He was a huge part of their series against Winnipeg. He scored about 700 goals. And also contributed some goals in the Dallas series.

Without the threat of secondary scoring, the Avs can be shut down.

I figured it would be much closer, likely a 7 game series, not 5.

Pickard confirmed for tonight.

Curious to see how he does and what kind of team plays in front of him.

Curious how much bad blood there will be in this series after McDavid took some shaft to the face. Probably not as much as Fla - Bos, that series is a war!

Oilers win... barely.

Canucks can take this series if they can play 60 minutes a night. Oilers triple shifting their top few players is the only way they seem to win.

Same could be said about the Oilers and playing a full 60 minutes. Really hasn't happened this series. Top few players? Nuge? Hymen? Kane? Drai? McJesus? Elkholm? etc?
The whole series has been barely wins... so not sure where that smugness is coming from

Both teams, as they are currently playing, are getting their butts handed to them in the Western final.

Oilers have been over playing McD and Drai and relying on their PP. Defense, bottom 6, and goaltending are highly suspect. Just check the ice time of McD. Forwards don't play 30 mins a game and go the distance.

Canucks are on their 3rd string goalie and their top paid player has had a miserable playoffs (at least offensively).

Canucks' mission was to win 1 round, you have to be happy with that as a fan. Getting to the Conf finals would be great of course, but Edmonton was heavily favored.

Is this your first time tuning into what the oilers have been doing all season? McJesus and Drai have been the PP specialist. When you have games with lots of power plays, you see their ice team increase. It's not really that far fetched. The most Mcd has played so far is 29 mins, but the average is less than that.

Skinner has been disappointing in a few games, but has been stellar in other games. You dont win the Stanley Cup going 16-0.

No I watched the Canucks destroy them 4 times in the regular season.

Cute....but you know the stats in the last 4 games....AKA the Playoffs? Oilers are literally dominating in most areas
