Finalists for Pershing Square. I'm content with whatever we get. They all have a lot of green
I like the James Corner and Why ones the best. Morphosis... not so much

All the Pershing Square proposals are pretty great. The only one I'd be slightly a little disappointed if they chose would be Agence Ter. It's so hard to choose between the other 3. Corner Field keeps it pretty simple like we all wanted, but the gimmicky aspects of the other two are pretty neat.

For me, it's James Corner Field Operations as the hands down winner. Agence Ter and team is a solid second place, wHY and Cevitas is a distant third that would still be better than what we currently have (sadly), and Morpohsis, while it also would be better than we currently have, seems like it's not feasible to win due to cost.

^Well the design chosen for the 6th st. bridge was the most expensive if I'm not mistaken.

As long as the driveways are made perpendicular to the street, as opposed to parallel as they are now, it will still be a huge improvement.

True that, but if they're pressing the reset button, might as well make the square properly

Well said, Jun. The perpendicular parking entrances are a help -- but the whole exercise is putting lipstick on a pig.

In addition to frustrating any attempt to make the park function properly (because the parking ramps get in the way and the fact that the parking is not set deep enough into the earth, which causes the plaza to poke up too high above street level, cutting it off visually) the parking structure is made out of non-ductile concrete. Non-ductile, pre-1977-ish concrete buildings are the ones that the City is looking to retrofit LA-wide because they don't do well in big earthquakes.

If you're a geek like me, next time you're in that parking structure, think about what non-ductile behavior of the columns and waffle slabs would look like.

One more reason to demo the underground parking and do the square correctly!

Here are the video presentations.

James Corner Field Operations

Agence Ter

SWA/Morphosis

wHY+Civitas

Like others I prefer JCFO. SWA/Morphosis is too hokey for me.

Trinity Auditorium & Hotel Clark have both been finished for a while yet still sit vacant in DTLA.

A new sign of life came to Trinity's crown, these pics were taken a couple hours ago.

I really like the James Corner Field Operations design. It has a nod to the classic John Parkinson's design the way the walkways and fountain are looking. Inviting entrances from all corners and a fountain at the center and also I'm loving the the green terraces reminds me of the steps of Union Square in SF or the red stairs thingy in Times Square.. Great for people watching. Also just checked the video out and yes the terraces and slope will contain restaurants, cafes and even possibly underground connection tunnel to metro

But I'd be happy with any of them

Big surprise to see a lighted Trinity dome I never gave this feature a thought, always just hoping it along with the Clark would just open in my life time. Thanks Hunter your right on the ball.
I was almost afraid to look at the designs for Pershing Park I'm a traditional type so I'm favoring the James Corner design too. Would like to see a more classic fountain with more tropical planting which I'm sure can be added, over all very pleased with it. Important that it gets started soon.

For Pershing it's either the James Corner or Agence Ter, leaning towards the latter because it's the most open contiguous green space. The WhY design is like Spring St on crack. No thanks.

As far as I know, Jose Huizar's office has secured $2M in funding, $1M from MacFarlane Partners and another $1M from LA Rec and Parks. I haven't heard how much these concepts will cost to implement but I'm sure we are not close.
