I agree that the height and more modern/glass-y design of these towers would definitely add a nice touch to the otherwise ugly brick/concrete towers in Hull.

Although, I would be a bit jealous though... ALL NEW TOWERS SHOULD BE IN OTTAWA

If I were the developer, I'd skew those towers opposite each other so that instead of the inside units looking into each other, they would have angled views opening to the north. It would also give the eastern tower broadside views to Parliament Hill.

I agree, it's is an increasingly attrictive aera, and I know several people that decided to move to vieux Hull. It's also extremely close to DT Ottawa.
We'll see how the aera develops. Maybe we'll have a new Hintonburg / West Wellington just across the river!
However I don't think I will ever move there because of the high provincial taxes

These buildings will be a great addition to the bland skyline no matter what size the floor plates are. Nice to see developers moving forward.

Is there a rationale for placing the towers like they did? Like, did they want to limit buildings on Eddy to only a few stories because it's a commercial street? I agree, it would make more sense to give the towers some breathing room by at least shifting one tower to the opposite side. I'm thinking at the very least the West tower, which would then be visible behind the TdlC tower and provide the upper units with some views of Tunney's.

I know its not part of the complex for which this thread is for, but it is across the street and being built by Heafey - The crane is now up and part of the Hull skyline for the new Heafey rental apartment building being constructed at the corner of Eddy and Wellington.

(is there a seperate thread for this one?)

I couldn't find a thread for this, but saw renderings of this building posted here. So I decided to share my photos. It's called Le W/E and they're at 13 floors now.

(On a side note, it would be nice if there were a way to collect all the Gatineau threads together, as they disappear quickly).

If it's any help, there is a Gatineau forum in the Quebec section. It's not super-active but people do post stuff there on occasion.

It's great to see the green roofs in the design!

Green roofs should be mandatory for all new construction in both Ottawa and Gatineau. And with global warming fast becoming a major concern for mankind, perhaps this should become the norm across North America and the world (I know, wishful thinking!)

Anyways, baby steps. This is one good step in the right direction!

^ So is that the smaller 12/13 floor rental building? If so, do we know when the other 3 x 33 story towers will start? Are those 2 towers offices or residential also?

Will be a very nice modern addition to Hull Skyline and add depth to it. It's funny how Gatineau, a city of over 300,000 and the third biggest city in province of Quebec (after MTL and QC City) has very little condos, towers or skyline.

You can't really make a direct comparison between Gatineau and Montreal and Québec given that Gatineau is largely a suburb.

Gatineau is actually #4 after Laval (400,000). Gatineau's (Hull) skyline is leaps and bounds ahead of Laval thanks to its proximity to downtown Ottawa and the Fed's willingness (for better or worse) to keep a balance in federal jobs between OT and QC.

Gatineau's skyline arguably has more consistent height than that of Quebec City which is a much larger city. Of course Quebec City's has a million times more charm but it's more classic and has very few modern skyscrapers.

Population-wise in the province of Quebec you have Montreal, then Quebec City, then Gatineau and then a trio with comparable populations that is Sherbrooke-Saguenay-Trois-Rivières. Gatineau is a lot closer in population to the trio than to Quebec City.

Have you ever seen the skylines of any of the latter trio? Gatineau's blows them all away.

I just wish the new buildings weren't going up so close to the old ones. It just causes the buildings to hide each other and makes the skyline underpreform.

Did we have a thread for the W/E I?

Anyways...

W/E II could start as early as this Fall and might very well include a grocery store and pharmacy.

Side note: based on the rendering, it looks like they will be incorporating the façade on the corner of Eddy and Wright within the development.

I believe Acajack and I had a short discussion on this a few months ago. Don't remember which thread.
