Town Madison update
http://www.al.com/business/index.ssf...art_river_home

Breland Companies founder Louis Breland said there are a number of retail, restaurant, entertainment and hospitality opportunities at the site, which spans 500 acres at Interstate 565 and Zierdt Road. They have already secured two hotels, a luxury apartment complex and over 200 new single-family homes and townhouses for the project.
There will be additional Town Madison development news in the coming days. The first retail and restaurant announcements are expected sometime this summer.
The Alabama Department of Transportation and U.S. Federal Highway Administration authorized the Environmental Assessment Document for a new interchange last fall at I-565 near Zierdt Road, paving the way for commercial, office and residential growth at Town Madison and another interstate access route for Redstone Arsenal commuters.
More than 6,000 tons of rock have been moved and the outline of the new Zierdt Road interchange is taking shape. Officials say work will continue on the site until the interchange is completed next year

I drove past that site this morning and saw crews working on what appears to be a foundation. This is the first sign of something actually being built there.

Also, with the mention of a forthcoming new federal courthouse, are they still eyeing the old mental health center property at Lowe/Gallatin for that site?

Camping World

I heard Camping World is coming in addition to Gander Mountain staying open. Maybe first Town Madison tenant? Or could they(either) be the outdoor store going into MidCity instead of REI?

I believe Camping world is more RV oriented (meaning taking up large amount of room) It sounds like Gander and Camping World will be combined as one at the current location. But could be wrong.
There still seems to be the possibility that the Gander Huntsville store may close
The Mobile and Montgomery locations of Gander Mountain will close.
Florence, Opelika and Tuscaloosa locations will remain open. The fate of the Gadsden and Dothan stores remains undecided

New Greyhound Station, or the old one is moving to the Huntsville transit station downtown. Ideal plan and was part of a long range plan. This puts Greyhound busses right next to city busses and taxi stand at the transit station.
The old Greyhound location is being bought by someone. It is a block from the VBC

This is good news.. Will they rebuild a terminal there? Has there been any conversations about starting regional transportation system?

In this article, Breland also states that there will be 700 hotel rooms. Assuming that these 700 will be divided between the two hotels, this means that these will be large, possibly high rise, hotels in order to accommodate on average 350 rooms each. This is significant given that the typical Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express in the HSV area has around 100 rooms and is about three stories tall. It will be interesting to see what brand these hotels are and their height as well.

73 East/Moores Mill Rd. intersection will see new homes

The area formerly known as Harris Hill - located near Chase and south of the intersection of U.S. 72 and Moores Mill Rd. - is finally seeing activity. At the April 25th Planning Commission meeting for the City of Huntsville, Legacy Homes submitted a subdivision plan for 210 homes in a community called Trailhead. This is significant as there was much hype over ten years ago about the mixed use Harris Hill development. Finally, it appears that something is happening. Now, perhaps, some commercial development will take place on the lots closes to the highway.

The current building was designed to accommodate busses so they will be remodeling existing space, new signs, counter space that kind of thing.

Developer Scott McLain and his partners will gather Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at SpringHill Suites by Marriott downtown on Memorial Parkway at Clinton Avenue.
McLain said his team will provide site plans, renderings, a construction schedule and other details concerning the redevelopment project.

Meanwhile at Town Madison
Developer Louis Breland announced this morning that Tynes Development Corporation and B&J, LLC, have entered into a joint venture agreement with Fuqua Development and Breland Companies to build 1,000 residential units at Town Madison.
The first phase of construction includes 280 units to be located in a four-story facility with elevators and high-end amenities within the mixed-use retail portion of Town Madison

Underwhelming for such high visibility property. EDIT: Nothing looks taller than Regions (Amsouth) or the Embassy. Also, it has a bland look about it.

Scott said that it will be the Tallest office building in town. Also the Hotels really aren't in the rendering. It just shows short structures so of course it looks bland.

These are not detailed renderings but basically placeholders showing the overall concept. No architect would consider these real final presentations.
If they did they should be fired.
What is of concern is the continued lack of detailed renderings after years of announcements.
An earlier concept from about 2 years ago showed a lot more

More Details on Town Madison Project

The two main companies responsible for developing Town Madison said an area known as "The District" a regional premium outlet retail shopping center and "Avenue Z" which will include a movie theater, grocery store, and restaurants apartments will all be a part of the major project.

more on this here:

http://www.waff.com/story/35452414/n...adison-project

Hope it will take less than 10 years to develop and complete.

Does anyone know what is the plan for the Quarry Park? Would be nice to see a beach there with some hiking trails all around and views from the hill.

This is a pretty outstanding development. I think about driving by this location on 565 and gargantuan is pretty much the only word that comes to mind to describe it...
