First green light for the Heafey Project. City has allowed the height limit to be raised from 14 to 33 floors.

I think the transit connections are acting as catalysts for growth on the Gatineau side combined with lower housing costs (even though Ottawa is relatively affordable compared to most other major urban areas in Canada).

Mostly cost. Transit connection on the Gatineau side have never really improved, even with the Rapibus (on the Island of Hull at least).

Let the height wars begin!! The dark side has had the crown for 35 years and developments like this will hopefully spur some more salvos from both skylines!!

The project seems to be moving forward...it has been approved and is pending a final ruling at the Gatineau municipal board according to laPresse.ca:

Those look like some massive floorplates, not a fan.

Seeing how the Terraces building beside is the tallest in the National Capital, that means that these new twin towers will be among the tallest as well. And this is the same builders who built Le Viu, so the final design will definitely improve the skyline with something fresh (unlike Claridge in Ottawa).

Why the negative reaction? Because its not in Ottawa?

I believe they have some plans for the podium areas, but I don't remember where I read about it last year.

The first building to go up will be smaller in scale and looks like this:

http://www.lapresse.ca/le-droit/economie...y-met-en-branle-son-projet-de-condos.php

To answer the questions about the podiums, I believe the Heafey complex (not sure in which building) will have a grocery store, a daycare, restaurants and a fitness centre.

The project you are referring to is not the same project. Its across the street on the east side of Eddy.

True but it is still Heafey and I think is part of the same project. Only it was approved more quickly and likely breaking ground soon.

You are right that it is still Heafey but totally different project and architecture.

I believe Heafey has started on this one as it was approved a while back.

Anyone know the height or is able to call up the city? I wasn't able to find council reports online.

Heafey proposed building a new central library in the podium at one point. They just want plenty of room for... something.

Those towers will be awesome, and certainly add more density to the area immediately near Terraces...

They broke ground on it a good month ago. They demolished a couple old houses that had a Chinese take out and Shawarma place on Eddy. Now they are digging a deep hole, not sure if they started blasting yet. I am betting a crane will be up by May.

I haven't been down Eddy for a while, either. Interesting to know this is proceeding.
