I took the architectural boat tour down the Chicago River back in September. I was awestruck, it was architectural pornography. The tour guide had lots to brag about, but when we passed this thing she pretty much rolled her eyes.

^ if it were in the middle of a suburban edge city people would probably hate it.
but in that setting it's grown on more people. I think it will look better with the 1000-ft waterview tower next to it.

a little different...

I don't know of another building that interacts with and compliments its surroundings as beautifully as this.

Oh my I can't believe you posted that hideous building. When I was living in Louisville I always had to turn my head the other direction when I approached it.

For those who aren't familiar, it is the Kaden Tower in Louisville. It is outside the downtown core quite a good distance and right next to the Watterson Expressway, and therefore very prominent in its location. Which is a shame because it is awful.

On topic, the Chrysler Building has always been a favorite of mine, the building that sparked my love for skyscrapers. However that may change after Trump chicago is completed.

Of course she did. Architectural critics prefer faux-industrial to faux-Greek these days.

But don't tell them that. They get mad when you point out the incongruities of their dogma.

Personally, I think the Donnelly building is attractive, but not particularly extraordinary.
