Converting Century Place to residential would be great, especially for affordable housing.

I worked on a concept plan circa 2010/11 to convert Chancery Hall to a micro-unit market apartment.

It didn't quite get over the finish line.

So this evening the Ice District is planning a new years celebration tied into the Oilers Game with Winnipeg.

I am assuming the city is doing something as well at Churchill Square.

Is there some coordination between the 2 events?

Maybe a coordinated effort by the parties involved to create a special event for Downtown - maybe televise locally as well and show Downtown in a positive light.

I guess it makes too much sense to pull off in this city.

The ice district event was published on the COE New Year's portal. So yea, id say there was some form of coordination. Not sure what else would be required.

Would have been nice to have it locally televised but not sure how you can control/convince major networks to give two craps about local programming.

Love this music festival (and its predecessor) so damn much.

I still recall pitches to enhance it such as:

1. dogsled taxis (serious)
2. coloured lanterns to link all events/locations
3. fire barrels outside of venues to signify where they are

Go.Watch/Listen.To.Live.Music.

That's too bad for it really is a great space, but just never seemed to create momentum.

I'd love to see an e-sport arena there

They got past that, but it never seemed to build a strong enough following during the week.

With Red Star and Rocky next door, one would have thought that it could have played off of those.

Soundtrack Music Festival is returning this summer. June 16-17 at Kinsmen Park. The last one to be held was in 2019 and in 2020 it was scheduled and the lineup was announced before ultimately being canceled for obvious reasons. I was really looking forward to the 2020 edition so hopefully, they're able to put together another strong lineup.

Expanding 9910 into that space or a brand new business venture? They're a great group so best case scenario in my mind.

New space/concept I believe, but could be wrong.

Lunch plans for May 5?

It's the first-ever Fan Park @ ICE District Cinco de Mayo Celebration! There will be live music, and dancing, and you can purchase food from Calle Mexico (lunch) or El Mero Mero Taqueria (after work).

FREE to enter (no ticket required)
Lunch: 11 AM - 1 PM
After work: 4 PM - 7 PM
Fan Park @ ICE District (same location as the Ford Tailgate Party)

Note: food is available to purchase and event is for all ages.

So What is Cinco de Mayo? It celebrates the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War May 5, 1862.

What -isn't- Cinco de Mayo? Despite a common misconception, it is not Mexican Independence Day.

And not celebrated in Mexico except from a few gringo tourist bars in CUN and PVR. Mexicans laugh about gringos celebrating this.

Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a holiday actually celebrated in Mexico and something we don't see here because of Halloween. I'm not sure why Cinco de Mayo is even a thing in Canada tbh.
