shovels in ground in October is last I heard. Phase 1 is fully funded, which includes the entire building envelope and finishing the first couple floors of the interior.

Is phase 1 the new building or the King Eddy side?

Yup. hopefully money can be raised in the interim to continue with phase 2 at the same time as phase 1. There's probably a good chance of that happening. Donors often step up once construction is underway. It's less likely that they give money to a project that never happens that way.

I'm pretty happy about the phasing, since it sounds like even if phase 2 fell through you'd have a fully restored (on the outside) King Eddy and a new building, which to me would mean no matter what the end result, but would remain, look good, and be used for SOMETHING.

I'd kill to see this one start construction.

The continuous pushing back is starting to get me concerned.

It is a little concerning, but considering that they have the funds for the first phase, I really believe that it will go ahead.

Perhaps it is something as simple as it being cheaper to excavate during the spring, rather than fall/winter.

I think there a couple planning issues to be resolved. Shouldn't be anything to worry about.

It's pretty common for any developments to get pushed back. I hope the current building boom in Calgary doesn't affect construction start.

BUT "any development" isn't a good touchstone for a non-profit. Perhaps a better one would be the polar bear exhibit at the Calgary Zoo that will be opening soon.

Okay, perhaps I'm being too negative, but point is, revenue streams for a non-profit don't accordion like those for many for profit buildings. Construction costs go up means condo prices go up, balancing revenue and expenditure those types of projects. Different ball game.

Gotye in residence at National Music Centre.

This is the kind of publicity that is great for the place.

That is pretty cool - neat that it isn't even something formal.
