I couldnt gathere more details as I came to Mumbai. Everything is routed through middlemen.
I dont think a Shopping Mall and 5 star Hotel would be viable in that area , so both looks different. There are many hidden players operating in Kochi in Binami names . Huge Chunks of lands are bought in the city . Only problem is the present Govt which is spoiling Kochi's growth. See the fate of Smart City , Political Clowns are wasting time by not making decision despite State committe giving it go ahead and willing to provide concessions. Thwy are afraid to take decision , thats why the project is so delayed . If Tecom goes to Coimbatore , That will be a sheer shame on Kerala govt.

SIGNATURE TOWER is awesome piece , this is how IT building should look like rather than some IT building which looks like Central Govt Office complex.
Wish this building was at Marine drive.
KMC,

I was just guessing from the land value. It has to be in Edappally-Vyttila stretch
is not in Ernakulam. But at Ernakulam one is not likely to get 22 acres of land that easily.
So I favored the former.

Okay, has anything heard further about Smart City ? Media reported that govt conveyed
the decision to TECOM. Since state commitee of CPM made a double edged decision by
saying "not to give ownership concessions" and "not to lose the project just on this issue"
it is not easy to "lose" the project either

Re: Signature Tower, like Pramod pointed out, L&T have made this phase II
instead of the smaller Swapnalaya - implying brisk sale of Tejomaya. Curious to know the occupants -
HP reportedly being one of them.

Kerala awaiting Dubai Internet City’s response
Published: Sunday, 1 April, 2007, 08:45 AM Doha Time

Thiruvananthapuram, March 31 (IANS) With new offers for the proposed Rs.15 billion Smart City in Kochi coming its way, the Kerala government is awaiting a final response from Dubai Internet City (DIC) officials on the project.

Joseph C. Mathew, IT advisor to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, told IANS: “We have made it very clear to DIC that under no circumstances would the land given for the project be made freehold.

“Almost 10 days back we informed them that the government was not interested in giving a freehold on the land. The land would only be given on a leasehold basis and we are not insisting on the period of leasehold,” said Mathew.

The total land to be leased for the project is 248 acres at a cost of Rs.1.04 billion. A pet project of the previous United Democratic Front government, the Smart City project involves the setting up of an IT park in Kochi.

The DIC team was here for discussions in the last week of February, following which Achuthanandan had announced that a final decision on the project would be taken before the assembly session began March 2. But things did not go according to plan, as DIC insisted on freehold rights to the land.

“They have agreed on all the other terms and it is only on this aspect that the project has been delayed. We have decided to would wait for some more time and then send them a final letter asking for their decision,” said Mathew.

Reports indicate that the Achuthanandan government is insisting on giving only leasehold rights because two other players - the Hong Kong-based JB Group and the local giant Muthoot Papachan Group - have submitted proposals that are far more attractive than the DIC proposal.

“Yes, two companies have announced their interest by meeting the chief minister and also holding press conferences. There are several others who are waiting in the wings to set up the project fully on our terms,” said Mathew.

This is unbeleivable , every day some 5 Star hotel project .... I think in future total no. of 5 star hotels will be around 20. The plus factor is , almost 90% who announced the project have the land bank in Kochi.
Is kochi growing too fast than required ??? Because there is little effort from Govt on the Infrastructure side ... This City will Choke in future .
But all said , Its good to see a city from Kerala leaping into the Big league.

Besides these, some towns in AndhraPradesh were being considered for setting up business class hotels.

A good news for Kochi Metro Rail

The troubles over appointing a special officer got resolved yesterday in a discussion
of CM VS with DMRC chief Sreedharan. The requirements mooted by special officer
would be met according to CM.

Now Metro project can hopefully have a smoother ride.

Kerala to get Rs.80 mn aqua technology park

Quote:
An aqua technology park, billed as the first of its kind in India, will soon be set up near the Kochi international airport in Kerala at the cost of Rs.80 million, state Fisheries Minister S. Sarma said Wednesday.

"This will be a joint venture project and of the Rs.80 million, Rs.40 million would come from the Centre. The latest Kerala budget has set aside Rs.10 million and the rest would be raised from the fisheries department and also through private participation," Sarma told reporters here.

The concept paper for the project, which aims to promote ornamental fisheries, and a global tender to identify a consultant have already been prepared, he said.

The park will come up on 12 acres of fisheries department-owned land near the international airport at Nedumabassery.

"Once the operations begin we expect jobs for over 5,000 families in the state where they can work from home too. We feel that each family involved in the ornamental fisheries sector could supplement their monthly income by Rs.6,000," said Sarma.

Apart from the park, the fisheries department plans to set up two satellite centres to this project - one in north Kerala and the other in south Kerala.

Sarma added that an Oceanarium is also likely to come up near Puthuvypeen in Kochi.

A fisheries museum and a biological research institute are also on the anvil and are mentioned in the proposed fisheries master plan that the state government cleared Tuesday.

In the case of inland fish output, the master plan would aim at increasing the quantity to 2 lakh tonne from the current 75,000 tonne. This apart, the master plan has earmarked plans for setting up a marine theme park, oceanarium and a marine biological institute in Kochi, the minister added.
