Ok, I thought the person you responded to was discussing multi family rentals.

Serious loss for the neighborhood. My parents were going to Nuevo Leon 30 years ago. It was a neighborhood institution and the first really successful restaurant on what is now a bustling stretch of 18th St.

Seriously though, the gas infrastructure in Pilsen gives me the willies sometimes. It seems like every building is on the verge of an explosion...
^ I just ate there 2 weeks ago. Really sad. I hope they rebuild. Great authentic food

This might be my new favorite thing. Thank you so much for creating it and making it public. I just found out from it that the old Howard Theater, which now has apartments and storefronts, is being renovated for a theater company to move in

No problem - glad you enjoy it. I always wonder how many of these come into fruition - many of course. I am going to try and put business names in there (some already are in there). I kind of want to do this for 2014 too and might make a 3rd map of 2014 + 2015

I saw this post a few days ago on the East Humboldt Park Facebook group, regarding the redevelopment of the beach. Anybody have any details? The post didn't have any anything beyond the picture.

^ Humboldt park has so much potential. Re-do the beach and make a dog park and the place will be packed in the summer.

I was out and about tonight, and noticed that the Mid-City Engineering building has been fully demolished! I also saw that Gondola is half-way demolished already as well!

I also saw that the "old prison workhouse" that was at the corner of Halsted and Division was torn down as well...I think that is to make way for the retail development that will be going on that corner.

When I said "Gondola" there, I meant to say GONNELLA BAKERY...the auto-correct changed it on me and I didn't notice it when I sent it! lol

I will check later today again to see if it completely demolished at this point.

Awesome news, thanks! Just remembered that the Mid-City Engineering building is where this cool bKL project is going:

Google debuts new West Loop office space. Take a tour
Quote:

Google debuted its new, highly anticipated and trendy West Loop office space today with a ribbon cutting and a ceremonial opening of decorative garage doors.

Crain's toured the new space, sure to be the envy of every desk-anchored worker in the city. Take a peek.

Interesting - there's been 3 building permits for new construction of multi unit buildings, totaling 15 units so far, on vacant lots around Franklin Boulevard on the very SE border of Humboldt Park and NE border of East Garfield Park (a few blocks north of the Kedzie metra stop and 1/2 mile north of the Kedzie Green Line stop). Wonder what's going on there...good to see.

^ Properties in that area are still very cheap relative to elsewhere.

A lot of people are still timid about that area, but the few people dipping their toes into the water may be richly rewarded 5-10 years from now, although (like all risks) it could always backfire.

Yep. I'm only mildly familiar w/them. Are you more familiar from a standpoint of whether they're actually successful in their mission?

Regardless of who is making them, it's still good from my perspective and an urban perspective that some vacant lots in these areas are going to be filled in. I've walked around that area before and there's actually some cool more industrial buildings that have been converted to lofts.
