Very random photos...

Post X-mas.

Waiting for post X-mas margaritas and Mexican food. We were told it would be a 20-minute wait, but it was more like 15.

Sometimes I wonder why, when arriving at a restaurant and being told it'll be a 20-minute wait, and then when you're seated, you'll see that there are plenty of empty tables.

They spilled my sopa de mariscos onto the dish.

Evening of New Year's Day.

Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena. Being that January 1st fell on a Sunday this year, the Rose Parade wasn't held until January 2nd (today). People always start camping out on the parade route the night before for the Rose Parade. Here you see a KABC-7 Eyewitness News live shot, I'm pretty sure showing their usual "People are camping out tonight for the Rose Parade" schtick, with some interviews of said campers. Incidentally, I saw quite a number of Utah license plates around town, presumably because of the Rose Bowl game (Penn State vs. Utah).

I'm thinking it was a plug-in electric bus. Metro wants to add more plug-in/all-electric buses, and I think it wants to phase out its CNG-powered buses. It supposedly now has all-electric buses on the G Line BRT busway in the San Fernando Valley.

Foothill Transit, which has some bus lines going into Pasadena, has some electric buses, and I believe hydrogen-fueled buses as well.

A usually dry wash, but today was filled with running water due to the recent storms we've been having. More rain is on the way.

Some random photos I took, Saturday, 1.22.2023 and Monday, 1.23.2022.

The mass shooting in Monterey Park the night of 1.21.2022 was really upsetting for me. My partner and I had thought to go to the Lunar New Year Festival there that evening but we didn't, we thought we'd go the next day, on Sunday... but of course it was canceled after the shootings. It didn't hit me until a day after the shooting that this was the closest a mass shooting has ever happened to where we live. In my mind, mass shootings were something that happened out of state or something. And the Lai Lai Ballroom, where the shooter was disarmed, is only a few miles away from where we live, and we drive by it often.

Sunday was a "plans changed" day, and we were in a weird mood. We felt we wanted to be out of the SGV for a bit, so we went to the area of my hometown, which also happens to be where my partner and I first met. Anyway, I had taken random pictures but wasn't in the mood to post them until now.

Greek food for lunch.

Dessert afterwards, at a Filipino bakery/coffee place.

Ube cigars, they call this treat.

And then cocktails afterwards.

This restaurant often has a table with high-maintenance Latinas celebrating a birthday.

I don't know if you can tell, but my drink was on fire.

My partner's drink.

After waiting a bit, we drove home. Pretty sunset.

Monday evening. We decided to have a Chinese meal like we thought we were gonna do the day before. So out to dinner we went.

Seaweed.

Beef roll.

Pan-fried fish chive dumplings.

Pork potstickers.

You've probably answered this question before, but I'm lazy and so I hope you'll indulge me: What do you take these photos with? Actual camera, or phone?

I use an actual camera. It's a small camera; I don't wear it around my neck or anything.

Ah... This is where I run into trouble. I have a giant Nikon that's kind of hard to hide, in part because it's giant and in part because it's burgundy, and stands out. I have to go with my phone sometimes, which takes okay pictures, but nothing like the actual camera.

I went to Monterey Park City Hall on my lunch break from work today to look at the memorial for the Monterey Park shooting victims who were killed. Looking at it, I actually started to tear up a bit.

My choco-latte. The heart design looked odd---I see a profile of Cro-Magnon man, or something.

My partner also got a choco-latte, but his design looked better. It reminded me of feathers, or something. Looking at it makes me think of the music from "Swan Lake" for some reason.
