Chongqing I've been to, and it is unequivocally one of my favorite cities on planet earth... and I was there back in 2006, so I can't imagine how much has changed since then. Spent three weeks there last trip, spending at LEAST one day and night in Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Lhasa. Checked a lot of the typical tourist spots off the list that trip (Great Wall, Forbidden City, Potala Palace, Great Hall of the People, Pandas near Chengdu, Chinese Opera in Shanghai, Terracotta Warriors, Three Gorges Dam tour, Samye Monestary, Wild Goose Pagoda etc. etc.) so I think a trip to kind of 'free roam' is in the cards for sure. The Pearl River Megalopolis is definitely now number one on my travel bucket list thanks to your passion and expertise... I'd also love to make it to the northeast to Harbin and Dalian someday too... Urumqi is probably a bit of a stretch though. lol

God I have really gotta make it back to China. I'm sure it's practically a different country from the one I visited by now... and let's be honest, China is one of those countries that you could vacation in exclusively for the rest of your life and never run out of things to see.

Wow, you had quite a trip, and yep, 'China speed' equates to a decade's worth of change squeezed into a fraction of that, so 2006 is a world away, especially on the Mainland and interior which is booming far more than the coastal cities right now, not just economically but culturally. I'd heartily recommend the countryside and landscapes too, not just cities - Jiuzhaiguo, Shennongjia, Zhangjiajie, Kanas etc.

Looks like a very nice location. I had to go to Wikipedia to see what the climate is like. Looks decent, especially in the summer, when mornings are really nice and cool.

Yeah, it’s actually my number one choice for living in Canada when I move back from Japan. Winter is relatively mild and short for Canada (though it is cloudy and grey), spring comes early (in full swing by mid March), summer is decently long warm and sunny with good stretches of real heat, and the semi arid landscape is my favorite. Also, if you want some more intense heat in the summer you can get it in Oliver and Osoyoos just an hours drive away.

Nah, never thought of Cali, maybe a little bit of oasis in Navada.

The southern interior valleys of BC (primarily the Okanagan, Thompson and Nicola Valleys and the Fraser Canyon) are the northernmost extensions of the bunchgrass / Ponderosa Pine ecosystems found throughout the western US.
