Was in Vista Hermosa Park and surprised at the site of the Grand.

Also a view from the Teardrop just off Sunset.

We need about a half dozen skyscrapers in the 700-850' range and two or three supertalls south of 9th Street to give the skyline visual balance from this perspective.

Olympia would do a decent job in one go at filling in some of the "gap".

It one I'm really crossing my fingers will break ground this year.

Isn’t that Chinese money? Probably unlikely in that case.

The only two 800 foot buildings I can think of that are at all likely to get built are angels landing and 1045 olive.

The $2 Billion Angel's Landing complex takes another step forward with the release of its draft environmental study. Groundbreaking is expected in 2022 with a roughly 4 year timeline and completion in mid 2026.

Sadly (IMO), the elementary school is no longer part of the program that now consists of: 180 condominiums, 252 apartments, two hotels featuring 515 rooms, 72K of retail and restaurant space and 750 parking spaces.

Still one of my most anticipated projects in all of Los Angeles and a major investment in the city in a great part of DTLA.

Am I still upset this is not a supertall? Yes

Am I still hotly anticipating it? Absolutely

LA needs no supertalls, it's already too prominent.

I don't think any city *needs* supertalls, but talking about it they would be a net additional or detraction from our skyline I think is an interesting discussion.

IMO In cities like New York, the new supertalls are taking away from the cohesive skyline rather than adding to it IMO.

That being said I think strategically placed supertalls in our skyline would absolutely be a net positive addition so long as they were of quality architecture which isn't a given.

That is why I'm not super broken up that this proposal likely won't be moving forward:

Yeah that ^ project would've detracted from the cohesion like you said and add an ugly cliff to the edge, and like I've said many times the prominence on top of the hill already kills 30 story buildings not on the hill which normally enhance a skyline, they mostly disappear in DTLA, for example Perla doesn't exist. Even The Grand is looking like a small fry at 39.

Street level interaction is more important, especially for bringing up the neighborhood.

Talk of small fries and big fries are for people mostly concerned with postcard skyline shots.

It already has one or two. Although I think 1 11-1200 footer would do wonders. Nothing needed beyond that really.

I guess there's no chance a new developer builds the exact same 1100+ footer at 333 Fig. Such a shame, that would've been great.

Nice photo update, thanks

Looks like Grand Ave is within a floor or two of topped off (pic a little small to count those floors above the last setback)

Great shots! Fig + Pico is about to take off. Is it just me, or do all those southwest-facing corner units in the South Circa tower look empty?
