Benito is a master archivist... the tower portion of the big pour which started at 9pm Friday (see above)... was complete no later than 8 am Saturday when he posted this shot.

The One (309m - 85s)

The annex building beside the tower (which hosts elevators up to the residential lobby above the Apple Store, and down to parking levels), is getting its big concrete pour.

Benito

Not an early April Fool’s joke: some bizarre news today regarding adding 9 more floors to the super-tall. No-one knows if the additional floors would be stuffed into the existing building envelope,
or if this means a substantial growth in height (to 94 storeys).

20 230612 STE 11 OZ
Application Type: Rezoning
Date Submitted: 18/12/2020
Status: Application Received

A total residential unit count of 505 is proposed.

One Bloor East across the street added 3 floors during construction as well. It's a surprisingly common thing in Toronto actually. Not standard, but several developments have done it over the last decade or so. 9 floors is a bit more than normal though, it's usually more like 2-5 floors.

yes, but random glass condos are one thing and a significant supertall another.

There's no answers yet, but some speculation that a Covid-impact conversion of hotel floors to residential might be the plan, but the ink is dry on a deal with a hotelier and the industry might be recovering in 3-4 years of construction. They are also not too far from starting the hotel lobby component so a re-mixed design seems like a long-shot.

Since the top volume of the original proposal was taller, others have speculated that the 1000 issues of adding height was planned for (foundations, elevators etc etc).

Mystery continues but it would be a chuckle to find out Sam Mizhari is stealing the super-tall height crown from SkyTower. Reminds me a bit of NYC 1930 when Chrysler's "secret spire" (185 feet) was unveiled, grabbing the world's tallest crown... only to lose it less than a year later to ESB.

The One has submitted for another rezoning despite being well under construction, requesting an additional 9 floors be added to the development. This would bring it to 338.3m / 1,110 ft tall.

I wonder how likely it is that the extra floors will be approved...

I doubt they would have submitted if they weren't given at least a somewhat receptive tone at the pre-submission consultation from City Planning.

The timing for it means they likely won't have time for an LPAT appeal, so will need city staff support to get it through quickly. Hopefully City Staff are already largely aware of the issues involved in it and can quickly draft up a staff report and get it in front of council.

The One - 338.5m* - 94s - Mizrahi Developments - Foster + Partners - u/c

*Previous approved and u/c at 309m, recently resubmitted for approval at 338.5m.

All 8 super-columns in place on the next level above the (double height) Apple Store.

Previously reported as 94s, signage on-site for the new applications says 95 storeys.

Nice! That's just meters away from the John Hancock Center in Chicago (roof). It'll look huge in Tdot
