By the way Mods, feel free to move this to General Developments. No high rise replacing Al's Beef.
Still good news, a dumpy stand getting replaced by a proper urban building with no parking lot or drive-thru, and a patio that adds vitality and life to the street. The new Al's location is a proper urban store as well.

We've seen a few of these restaurant new-builds in that area - Cantina Laredo, True Food, etc. I'm not gonna make perfect the enemy of the good, a neighborhood full of highrises and lowrise buildings is still WAY better than a neighborhood full of highrises and parking lots.

I get the calls for some more facade variation, but really digging how 150 Riverside / 444 Lake / 110 Wacker blur together to form a shiny blue wall, like a 21st-century gateway to the Loop. It's as if they're reminding everyone that the Loop still stands tall and the river still runs through it

I like this building a lot, and appreciate the structural design being brought to the forefront instead of buried within the building...but I think visually, the X bracing creates a strange mental image because it appears to be 'sagging' on either sides. Our brains creates tricks because we're so accustomed to X bracing looking a specific way, so when you alter it, even though the building is structurally sound by design, the mental differentiation between the two makes this particular design appear less....'rigid', and therefore (mentally) 'less sound'. Dunno if anyone else has that psychological association...

All construction activity in the Chicago Central Business District has been closed for today as the City tries to stabilize the area.

This is good! It looks like they are gonna do the folded geometry after all, I was worried it would just end up as a flat wood panel like the side of the building.

No kidding, where have you been?

The longer answer is that all of these Fulton Market buildings go through design review by the city. If a developer wants to do a traditional look, they have to go all the way with appropriate windows, no utility brick, etc.

That's a highly stylized way of putting it. I would say it just looks limp and wrong, and therefore I don't care for it.

Are you saying you don't care for it also, or paraphrasing me? Either way, yes, 'limp' is a good word for it too.
