I don't think it looks bad either. I'm looking forward to some retail opening there since it's close to the office. some sort of high-rise may have looked cool, but I'm happy with the current plans for SY. I also like to imagine something cool happening with the high-line if CSX ever abandons it, like replacing the current RR line line from Bala with a rapid transit line to the navy yard with a station at market behind the Builtin building.

CSX will never abandon it. They run well over 20 trains a day on the high line. It's a valuable asset have, since double stacks are cleared on it. Ironically, the catenary poles are high enough, whereas the tunnel under the Art Museum on the River Line is not.

It feels strangely incomplete to me. Like a pair of bookends bookending nothing but air. For some reason this render makes me almost feel as if the masonry flank is tottering, a movement, or hint of a movement, frozen in time.

I'm not sure what to think of it from an aesthetic standpoint. I rather liked the heavy façade of the old Bulletin building, but I'm not sure if continuing the curtain wall around the sides while keeping the curving corners intact would have necessarily worked either . . . Perhaps the root problem lies in the flatness of the thing, that had the curtain wall been recessed and the masonry curve allowed to extend into the recess (which then could have been replicated on all four sides) would yield a much more aesthetically pleasing building.

Red benches or maybe some type of new lighting feature on the side would tie it in with the new front. Honestly though I don't really think it'll matter when you're looking at redwood trees surrounding a nice green space and new skyscrapers...

It doesn’t bother me. If I were working in there, I’d like looking out onto the park, but would welcome more of a barrier between me and the traffic to help reduce noise pollution. Seems practical to me.

Mockup appears to lack the spandrel glass used in the finished product. I think the single panel covering both the window and the span looks great.

This (along with the park) plays an important part in connecting 30th st station (and center city) to UC. This used to feel like a wasteland.

Yeah, that actual spandrel glass treatment and font overlay on the glass totally upgrade this. It's going to look great with those red fins.

Like the laying of a cornerstone of a significant building, so is this development to Schuylkill Yards.

What a difference the glass makes. I like it. It sort of feels like the bldg opened up. Hopefully the red exoskelton work well together with it. Thanks for posting the pic!

The old walls look like ugly bookends now. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Still, the overall effect is an improvement.

You didn't actually include the images, just the supposed names of files that live on some unspecified server somewhere. Also the namer of the files mis-spelled Schuylkill.

EDIT: Teh google tells me the images are from this August PhillyVoice article:

Master plans unveiled for striking red skyscraper next to 30th Street Station | PhillyVoice.com

There is a fascinating story behind the spelling of Schuykill. Many people think it referred to an area where fish were killed in large number by the Indians and early Dutch settlers, but this is in fact incorrect. I don't have time to tell the story right now. Message me at iamatripod78@yahoo.com to get the details.
