I wonder if the Grand Hyatt redevelopment will be another spired supertall. Then there's always the Pfizer site.

42nd Street is becoming Spire City. One Vanderbilt, Chrysler, One Bryant Park, 4 Times Square, Grand Hyatt?

4 Times Square is quite deceiving, it didn't start out that way. It acquired it's antenna 'spire lookalike' in October 2003, four years after the building's completion in response to the need for a transmission tower due to the loss of the one at the WTC. Given it's in sync with the BOA's lighting pattern on most occasions, it does rather seem like it was part of that building's design from the get go.

can they pull it off ---> TF Cornerstone and MSD Partners (an investment group linked to Michael Dell)? ? ?

Crazy how much this building fits in like it's been there the entire time.

They are aware of the prominence of the site, and will hopefully want to build something as in"spire"ing.

One Vanderbilt has a really commanding presence on the skyline as you're driving West towards Manhattan on the GCP.

Last talk was that it could be a conversion. But we'll see. The thread for that is here...

The City looked mystic back in the days. And paradoxically looked taller and more "futuristic" than now.

It looks mystic because we see that we never experienced. Of course it's gonna look in a certain way.

It looks taller and more futuristic because they actually cared about the humanity of their architecture, and how it lends well with the surroundings. They had pride in their work and using natural numbers for proportionate scales.
