it looks pretty cool.

but a touch generic.

as others have said, it sorta looks like it belongs in some random chinese city that no one has ever heard of.

but the days of the site-specific supertall skyscraper appear to be on the wane anyway, so.......

So excited about this one. As the renderings suggest, this could take on a whole different appearance from different angles the way the materials reflect.

I'm definitely with you on this, Haystack.

Seriously though, I think the renderings are gorgeous! I love the gentle curve to the tower, I think the different materials used are great, and I agree that the different angles and materials could cause this tower to look very, very different when viewed from various angles, which is pretty much awesome!

I left RIGHT when the first person stood up to complain about blocked views. By that point, the comments were high on praise, with several residents bringing up traffic concerns, additional landmark and preservation requests, and one guy going off on his concern that the cul-de-sac on CityFront Plaza would cause untold millions of deaths previously unheard of.

How did the remaining questions go?

To me it was half positive half negative comments. My favorite was the lady asking if they thought about glare studies and heat gains this thing would cause. Oh the humanity!

People on twitter were genuinely upset about this building when it was trending on the site. I thought the general public would like it as much as we do.

I wonder if it's from the articles that came out about the London Shard melting cars and causing havok from sun glare. Things like that stick out in people's minds even if it doesn't necessarily apply.

counting up the floor levels in the stacking diagram below, i got 113 floors, including all of the various mechanical and parking levels.

an earlier tribune article mentioned 96 floors, but that was only for occupied floors.

96 occupied floors+ 6 parking floors + 11 mech. floors = 113 total floors.

CTBUH also has this listed as 113 floors.

The top kind of looks like Batman's head. Or perhaps a Lord of the Rings kinda thing. I don't know--I'll take it, but this just looks like some rehashed old supertall from yonder global city kinda thing.

My other major critique is, if this being built facing an elevated street/plaza, why not make all of the parking below grade? I really hate to see a parking podium overlook one of the city's most noteworthy plazas.

Parking will be concealed with active uses.

I'm not super excited about the visual design. I like the density and the height but it kind of looks misplaced in this exact location. If this was at the Spire site, or somewhere in the South Loop I might like it more. But you know what they say about opinions....
