So, Carolina and Vegas it is.

After coming out rusty in game 1, Carolina shook off the rust and steamrolled the Habs. The last 4 games weren't even close (in terms of play), so I'm going to predict Carolina in 6 for the cup.

Hmmmm... the person who thought this would be a cake-walk for the Habs hasn't posted since winning Game 1. Weird.

Well Habs fans, it may not be the result you wanted but at least you won more games than Colorado did these playoffs.

I watched last nights games for all the wrong reasons. The Habs looked like a farm team last night.

As the series went on it became more lopsided. Last night's game was the most lopsided playoff game I've seen in as long as I can remember.

For the young habs team it'll be a learning experience, and no doubt they'll benefit from it in seasons to come. Maybe not immediately, but in future seasons. As they say, Rome wasn't built in a day.

4th at the Worlds with an OT loss to Denmark (full marks).

Ouch.

*not that anyone I know really watched or cared about this tournament.

Funny seeing certain fans of eliminated teams posting in full force. That's your moment enjoy it.

Unfortunately, it was a foregone conclusion especially with how bad they were playing. My prediction came true. One team had a 12 days rest, the other was coming off 2 grueling series against the 5th and 4th best team in the league.
Regarding some people concern that you shouldn't run of gas in the 3rd round, I would agree this is an area that will need improvement going forward but this is a young team and this season was the first time almost all of them have played 100+ games. They are not used to the grind yet. 1st round against the most veteran and playoff ready team and 2nd round against a team that was the best in the NHL from December on.
A lot of people are fixated on the Game 7 9 shots but overall we were the better team (or even at worst) throughout 6 games vs Tampa. Same story against Buffalo (that Game 7 was more even).

Overall, only positives from this season. This is a team who was picking top 5 just 2 years ago. Made a surprising playoffs appearance last season only to be beaten in 5 by the Caps. Now we went through the toughest division in hockey and made the ECF. Massive improvement.

What needs to happen this summer is getting a proper 2nd line. We cannot leave Demidov on an island by himself. Made Kapanen a 20+ goals scorer for christ sakes (a player who was benched in the post-season). At the very least a 2C but need a top 6 winger as well.

Laine out at 8.7M gives us a lot of room to make it happen.
If we decide to buy out Gallagher's last contract year it will free up 2.7M. So we would have 11M+ to work with. Yes, Demidov will need to be re-signed but the rest of the core are locked in long-term. If no buy out then Anderson and Gallagher's contract will expire after the 26-27 season which will free up 12M. That's when Demidov's future extension will kick in. So A LOT of flexibility cap wise.

Kitchener walked away with their 3rd Memorial Cup last night. It was a fitting finish for the Rangers who looked unstoppable since the trade deadline in early January.

This represents a back-to-back win for Sam O'Reilly and Jared Woolley who were traded to Kitchener from London at the deadline, and is a bittersweet ending for a large cadre of overagers who are graduating out of junior hockey this year. In particular I have to highlight Dylan Edwards who is such a gritty, hard working player. He was a big player on a weak team in Erie for his whole junior career, but he didn't see any success with Erie and he finally asked the GM there this fall if he could look for a trade for him so he could have a chance this year. To Erie's credit, they did manage to work out a trade with Kitchener in early December, and there was no one more deserving of that win in my opinion. He's a small player which means he's been overlooked by the draft so far, but he's not afraid to play physically and he's a huge scoring threat and play maker and one of the big three forwards for Kitchener.

Have to also mention Andonovsky who is a life-long Ranger having started as a lower draft pick and finally becoming captain last year. He was a huge influence on the teams culture, and looked like he had said goodbye to the organization last year, moving to the AHL in September. He had an injury, though, and so the Sens transferred him back to the Rangers and he was able to finish of the season with them as an overager and get that opportunity to hoist the cup.

Everett was an excellent team, but I can't be more proud of the Rangers who almost never deviated from their play that they've been exhibiting the entire latter half of the season, and stormed through the Memorial Cup with absolute dominance.

As a Knights fan, it was nice to see O'Reilly and Woolley win again. Also cool for O'Reilly to become the 4th player to win regular season, playoff and Memorial Cup MVP in the same year, joining Brad Richards, Corey Perry and Mitch Marner.

3 years in a row for the OHL now, after 4 straight from the Q. Last time the W won the cup was 2014 (Edmonton)

OHL now passes the WHL for most wins in the modern tournament era as well.

Leafs fans better get ready to see Marner hoist the Cup in about 2 weeks. Better start preparing mentally right now. The earlier, the better.

Vegas in 6, just a better team all around than Carolina now that they have the goaltending.

^ This will be a series of whatever team scores first will win that game.

I don't think Vegas is a lock to win this series.

I'm not sure either. I don't think there is any result that is out of the possibility. Looking forward to watching this.

It should be a good series. I will be cheering against Vegas.

Cheering for local boy Seth Jarvis and for Ehlers.

Carolina has lost a single game this entire playoff run, they should be taken very seriously. Still can't believe Vegas swept the Avs though, that was something else!

Gotta cheer for Vegas now as the second round pick the Flames received in the Rasmus Anderson trade turns into a first round pick in 2028 if Vegas wins. That would mean 2 firsts for Anderson + Flames got Whitecloud too. Nice work Conny.
