I seem to recall hearing long ago that Moncton’s terminal cost around $100M but someone I spoke with in the airport design field scoffed at that and said that was very pricey. A new road getting to it could maybe be $750k to 1-million a kilometre depending on geotechnical conditions.

Does YSJ have a realistic path to a 10,000m runway, or should the province and transport Canada be looking to get a private interest to build a new airport between Saint John and Fredericton, where a 10,000m runway could be constructed more economically?
Carney has recently floated the idea of privatizing airports and ports, and what better project to start with than one where the private interest has to build the airport themselves…
I’m sure the Emirates would be more than willing to build a world class airport between Saint John and Fredericton if it meant they could purchase or lease a significant portion of the port owned land in Saint John (See AIM), and/or invest in a future deepwater port terminal at Lorneville.
