That's what this article says: Tuscaloosa Thread

Gah, a replacement. It needs to be replaced, it's well over capacity, but this is gonna cause some big headaches on Jack Warner and Rice Mine.

This is crazy. Is this coming out of left field. I haven't heard a peep about bridge replacement before.

New condos on Lake Tuscaloosa.

Construction on what will be a pedestrian bridge that will connect the River District Park to The Saban Center across Jack Warner Parkway.

Hanna Steel Announces $20M Expansion Of Tuscaloosa Facility

Not sure if it's a typo or not, but only 14 new jobs from this?

Quote:
The Tuscaloosa County Economic Development Authority (TCEDA) on Thursday announced that Hanna Steel Corp. will invest $20 million and expects to create 14 new jobs in an expansion of its steel production lines in Tuscaloosa.

TCEDA says the new investment will add equipment to expand certain slitter services to the company's production lines, which will ultimately increase the company’s footprint in Tuscaloosa County.

The steelmaker plans to add 9,000 square feet to its existing facility in the Tuscaloosa County Airport Industrial Park to support the expansion of its operations. The new equipment will also allow the company to expand production and improve productivity by increasing efficiencies in the company's manufacturing process and decreasing equipment downtime.

Along with the new jobs created, TCEDA said a number of existing employees will be promoted to support new production activities.

14 seems about right for a $20 million expansion. These days, steel production just isn't as human-labor intensive.

Better than nothing I guess. Would be nice for Tuscaloosa to land something that could help retain/attract younger professionals.

Saw the ribbon cutting for the expansion of the Riverwalk. It's going to be nice.

Would also be great if the city as a whole invested more into bike lanes.

I've read, lately, about the incredible growth that is occuring in Auburn, Alabama and, how it is comparable to Huntsville's boom. So, I decided to look into it a little deeper. I'll not even mention Huntsville, because Huntsville is blowing the rest of the state away, and it's not even close.

So, I decided to compare Auburn's growth to that of the city of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It seems, the real data suggests Tuscaloosa is second to Huntsville (and is little talked about) in population boom.

First, the 2020 population census shows that Tuscaloosa's population to be 100,987 versus Auburn's 76,585.

The 2024 population estimates for both are Tuscaloosa, 114,288 and Auburn, 83,757. That is a 13,301 increase for Tuscaloosa and a 7,172 increase for Auburn.

Tuscaloosa continues the rapid growth rate with a 2025 population estimate of 116,465 versus an 85,429 population estimate for Auburn. That is a one year increase of 2,177 for Tuscaloosa versus a 1,672 increase for Auburn. So, the TOTAL increase in population from 2020 to 2025 is 15,478 for Tuscaloosa and 8,844 for Auburn, a differernce of 6,634.

Although both are growing at a rapid rate in an overall stagnant state, one is growing much faster than the other. The data doesn't lie. The second fastest growing city in the state of Alabama is Tuscaloosa, and it's not even close.

So, for the "I wish Tuscaloosa was growing like Auburn" crowd, these are the FACTS. And, being ignorant, then learning, is one thing. Being ignorant by choice is just plain stupid. RTR

Recently visited Tuscaloosa again to see the family. Man the area by Rice Mine Rd and New Watermelon Rd is so beautiful, but it is really missing that 'pop'. I say it's equivalent to what Auburn has near Moore's Mill Club, but it doesn't have near the development that area has. Tuscaloosa seems to really just be missing a vision for creativity and making it a more asthetically pleasing place. It is still a good place to live in certain areas, but really wish leadership was better.
