The Stitch: Downtown Atlanta

Atlanta City Council moves forward with funding ‘The Stitch’ project

"The Atlanta City Council voted on three ordinances to fund, define, and implement the I-75/85 capping project, “The Stitch,” at its April 21 meeting."

With this legislation, The Stitch is officially happening!

About 25% of the funding has been secured - I would not count this as a guarantee that the project happens.

25% for phase one or for the whole project? I was under the impression that full funding for phase one was secured.

You’re correct. Phase one is fully funded and is happening. Phase two and three are not funded yet, but this legislation will help fund them. And like the Beltline, phase one will hopefully spur development, which will encourage the next two phases.

Thank you, that’s more promising then!

https://roughdraftatlanta.com/2025/06/10/atlanta-stitch-project-funding-threat/

“Feds threaten to take back money for The Stitch project”

“The Stitch received a $157.6 million U.S. Department of Transportation Neighborhood Access & Equity (NAE) Grant, matched by nearly $30 million in local funds. However, the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has proposed rescinding un-obligated NAE grant funds as part of Trump’s effort to rein in government spending.”

Is that even possible? It's already halfway finished.

What do you mean by ½ finished? I think the design is mostly complete, if that is what you mean. Doesn't matter because the claw back will almost certainly happen. So very likely the Stitch will be as dead as the The Cap. I doubt the State will help out.

Oh, wait. I got The Stitch and Centennial Yards mixed.

I've had very little sleep...

I'm not sure if the fate of the federal funding has been decided yet, but over the weekend they were boring geotechnical core samples to understand the composition of the rock and soil to ensure the Stitch is structurally sound.
