I mentioned this on the subreddit but I think that it would be great to see the old Zions Bank building on 100S and Main incorporated into a large, mixed-use tower.
Here's an example in Toronto of what they call "heritage retention" where they keep the existing historic buildings and incorporate them into the base of a new tower. (

SLC isn't unique in this regard. Denver (and most US cities) looked a lot like this 20+ years ago but they've had a crazy amount of infill since then. Here's an infamous comparison of Denver in the early 20th century vs. the 1980s. It's mostly recovered now but it's really amazing to see what was lost there and in many other cities to parking. SLC is filling in as well, although the southern and western regions of downtown have a long ways to go.
Similarly-sized downtowns like Tulsa, Des Moines, Reno, Louisville, and Phoenix have similar issues to SLC. Little Rock might be the absolute worst in this category.
