Any history on context on these buildings?

Hi,

I've always liked looking at Montreal, there is some very unique and interesting buildings. I recently came across this massive block of fairly tall (for being out of downtown) buildings, but what stood out is how HUGE the floors are, some are 200x400 feet (or about the size of an average block in downtown).

Were these old factory buildings converted to office? Is there something significant about the location in the city?
