Now, the next thing Lower Mainland malls could lose are their vast parking lots.

Mall owners are realizing they can make far more money housing people rather than cars and some are pursuing high-density residential developments.

That might have been news a decade ago but it's pretty well known now. Coquitlam Centre, Lougheed, Brentwood, Metrotown (really Station Square) and Guildford are all mentioned in the article - and they didn't suddenly come up with the idea of building towers on their parking lots yesterday.
