The Bank of Canada inflation calculator has 3 cents in 1914 equivalent to 83 cents in today's dollars at 2,665 percent inflation between then and now. It also calculates that 5 present day dollars is equivalent to the purchasing power of 18 cents in 1914, so perhaps it might be reasonable to get a lunch for perhaps between 8 and 15 cents, considering such lunches would likely be something simple that could be produced daily for many employees such as a bowl of soup with a chunk of bread.
